Apple not finished with Samsung yet

The average consumer doesn't give a rats ass about the litigation. The only people getting upset are Android fanboys and computer geeks. I don't see this having any affect on Apple sales

Here's an interesting view on how the real average person's thinking goes:

I can't make this stuff up

I'm sitting in a Starbucks doing random whatever over an iced americano. While I waiting for my drink, I watched a guy with his friend, pick up a newspaper; and start to remark on the Samsung Apple verdict.

Guy: "Wait, so what they're saying is, Samsung is the same as Apple?"
Friend: "I know, right? Makes me think twice about how much I paid for my Mac Book"
Guy: "Seriously"

Not 10 minutes later, a husband and wife, same newspaper:

Husband: "... Samsung's iPad is the same as Apple's iPad, and I paid how much for the Apple one? Honey, I told you they were a ripoff", after looking up the Samsung tablet on his iPhone.
Wife: "Oh wow," looking at the screen, "... that's a lot cheaper. Think we can return it?"

I put my Samsung QX410 on my table, and started to plug in, when he leans over to me, "Sorry, you don't mind if I ask, how much did you pay for your Samsung laptop?"

"Oh, no worries, it was $700." I replied.

I watched shock overcome his face, like actual shock. He looked at me, blankly, for an awkward amount of time, "Mind if I have a look?" he asked.

So, I obliged, and showed him a few things. He commented on Windows 7, so I opened up my virtual machine of OS/X... By the time the conversation was over, he was ready to kick Cupertino in the nuts, I think.

... Now, the punchline:

I'm writing this post after the FOURTH group of Starbucks patrons have made the connection that Samsung is now the same as Apple. They don't know the details, they don't really care, what they know is Apple is saying that Samsung is the same as Apple ... and with one simple Google Search, you get prices that are basically half for what seems to be the same products -- for nearly everything.

Two of these groups (including the husband/wife) asked me about my Samsung laptop, the second group noticed my Galaxy phone (also by Samsung)... Best billion dollar ad-campaign Samsung ever had.

I'm sure Apple are quivering in their boots at the prospect of a vendetta by a handful of Samsung fanbois.

Not just Samsung fanbois...the whole Android clan.

Personally I don't like Samsung' brand. I've got great respect for their technology, and sometimes I admit their products are far superior and good bang for buck. But just my personal choice. ie love Sony and HTC (for LED TV and phone respectively).

I digress, let me get back to my point: Samsung have got all my support if they ever ask me to petition for them :D

Samsung fanbois? If you see this as only Samsung fanbois having an issue with Apple you are not getting it. I wonder if there is even a thing like a Samsung fanboi. I'm not one. More like an Android fan ... but I'm the sort of person that will easily give the new MS Windows on mobile devices a go. I got two Asus TF300 tablets on Thursday. I have a house full of Apple stuff.

This fight is about Apple. Not about Samsung. Not even about Android. This about a bully that is fast making enemies all across the spectrum. Got it?

I think calling you Samsung fanboys is accurate seeing as you all keep holdings up your S3s or notes as the only worthy comparisons to the iPhone.

The Note is now my favourite device. If HTC brings out something as good or better I will take that. If Windows 8 gets it right I will even go for that. I go for what is best for me imo. I've been with Apple. I replaced my iPhone 4 with an S2 when I realised it was the better device and I replaced the S2 when the Note suited me better. Samsung just happens to be making very good Android devices at present. If someone can do it better I will go there. HTC Flyer is still my favourite tablet (and I have access to all kinds of tablets). Many just realised that Apple is more marketing bull***** than substance. They actually use components from the likes of Samsung to have their products manufactured (they make nothing themselves). So an Apple is just a combination of the products from other manufacturers put in a nice case designed by Sir Ives. Many now realise what Apple really is ... the products and the company.

So Bevonk if the new iPhone should prove to be better than the current Samsung line up you'll be getting yourself an iPhone?

Well said. It seems the the most mature posts come from people who can reason beyond the Apple hype and onesidedness (spelling??) of their arguments.

A lot must then change with such a new release to work better for me. I want full access to my files ON the device. I want to ne able to connect a USB thumb drive to it and move files both ways (even through a connector would be okay). No iTunes connection to load anything. That is what my current devices allow me to do without hacking them. I need more freedom from Apple to go that way again.

I think I've got it, quite clearly in fact. Apple are protecting their huge R&D and design investments from the cheap far-eastern copycats who steal in preference to innovating.

Nope, you still don't get it. Nevermind.

Interesting that only a US court found Samsung "guilty" of copying Apple "innovations". The rest of the world seem to see it differently. The quality/validity of the Apple patents are widely questioned. The US patent system is broken and Apple abuses it.

iFans like you keep on feeding the impression Apple are the innovators and the evil "far-eastern copycats" just steal from them. I've said it on here before (several times): go check (use wikipedia if you want) who registers the most patents in the US. You will consistently find IBM and Samsung at the top. Apple never breaks the top 10. How can Samsung then be accused of not innovating and being a "cheap far-eastern copycat"? You took Apple's lies hook, line and sinker.

Patents aside, can you honestly deny that samsung's current line up is more than just a little 'inspired' by the release of the iPhone and iPad.

Which was inspired by devices before it. Geez I had a Palm in 2000 already.

A lot of companies are inspired by Apple in several ways. Jobs acknowledged that he and Ives were inspired by Braun and Sony. That is how technology and designs evolve. One inspires another. Fashion is just that. What will happen in the fashion industry if companies/designers are allowed to patent clothing and shoe designs and the way they are worn?

Question to you: Can you honestly deny that something is very wrong with the US tech patent system and the way Apple uses it against their competitors?

JStrike - an Apple disciple of note - agreed with me on here that Apple is not going about this in the right way (litigation).

I've always maintained that I love Apple's designs and focus on quality. I am a fan of Jonathan Ives' work. Apple's got the look and feel right. That is what made me a fan ...and that they were the underdogs fighting bullying Microsoft. The wheel has turned and the opressed became the opressor ... the story we see repeated over and over in the history of mankind.

There is a difference between inspiration and blatant ripping-off, as in this case.

LOL! Sounds like you should hire Malema and start a liberation movement.
