Apple not finished with Samsung yet

Patents aside, can you honestly deny that samsung's current line up is more than just a little 'inspired' by the release of the iPhone and iPad.

Samsung's linup isn't just a release of Apple products. In fact there next batch of releases is not really Apple mimics at all. Thats the problem. Samsung isn't competing with Apple it is pillaging off Apple in order to to manipulate the market and the know it. They knew that 9/10 judges would have handled the trial in a speedier manner than a jury and that they would have to pay out damages to Apple. What they were hoping is that they could convince the jury that Apple is a bully and because Apple is a bully Apple should be unprotected. Their fall back is that jury didn't give them what they wanted they would attack the American legal system.

The only the Samsung intends to permanently emulate from Apple is a reality distortion field and fanboy following. Sadly they seem rather apt at doing so.

I don't think an injunction on the Note will fly (its emphasis on a stylus), and I also doubt that the Nexus devices will stick - Nexus is strongly marketed as an Android product and has a different look and feel (for one thing it doesn't pillage Apple's one button in the centre routine).

The Galaxy Tabs at 7" pose a tricky situation but I'm oppossed to an injuction.

Must get my hands on Note to try it out - I unfortunately can only compare my Iconia (running ICS) to the wife's iPad2 - and from a functionality perspective, Iconia knocks the socks off the iPad, BUT from a smoothness of the UI perspective, my Iconia is like wheezing old Geezer and the apple a fit, 22 year old Olympian athlete.

Damnt, I want the best of both worlds...Android but with that Apple smoothness (I see the folks over at XDA are hard at work on Jellybean for the Iconia (holds thumbs)

You've hit the nail on the head. Apple is actually selling the smoothness itself. That's how they grabbed millions of consumers who weren't even technogeeks before, and introduced them to effortless computing - not to mention fashion, coolness etc.

Android seems inherently geek-centric, allowing mix-and-match, flexibility, open-ness and all that and will attract that mentally.

Both are valid.

However it seems obvious that Apple consumers will be alarmed that their iconic brand is acting in 'non-cool' ways (whether justified or not) and would switch off the brand, whereas Android fans love the open challenge and are more likely to switch to Samsung and other 'champions' on the open market (as they perceive it).

I don't see Apple as 'losing' this battle - simply losing a certain segment of their customer base.
 
I've run Jelly Bean on my SGT10.1 for a while and it was very smooth. Running official ICS now and it is smooth as well. No lags of any sort at all. Android on tablets has made huge strides forward with ICS and now with JB. Honeycomb was a disaster. My rants about the SGT10.1 running Honeycomb can be found on this forum. I absolutely hated it and wanted to sell the tablet at some stage and stick to my iPad 2. It all however changed when I rooted the tablet and loaded custom ICS roms (and later JB). Tablet turned into a beauty and now with the official Samsung ICS rom it is truly a joy to use. With Jelly Bean I will not hesitate for a second to get another Android tablet. ICS itself is already a huge improvement.

Until recently I adviced all who asked me to get an iPad as I believed it to be the superior tablet solution. Jelly Bean has changed my mind and what I see coming in iOS 6 does not convince me otherwise. Google has breached the gap and - I believe - is taking the lead. Sales won't show that for now. But change is coming.

Erm. No. I dont know of any Samsung "fanboys". Only iHaters like me and Bevonk. Purely based on their monopolistic tendendies and bullyish behaviour. I for one dig Android, but wishes that Nokia could make a comeback (had some cool Nokia's years ago), but also see the value and potential in Windows Phones (havent tried yet, but would love to). I hate one fat cat company throwing millions of dollars into lawsuits in order to demolish their competition. LEts be fair. Thats what its all about. Its not about the Hollywood inspired justice, liberty and idealistic bull***** like they want us to believe. In the end they only care about the $$$$.

It's also about Apple abusing the loopholes in the patent system. You're most welcome to support a douchy company, just don't expect me to.
 
SeRpEnt: If you aren't a Samsung fan boy you will see how Samsung has actively sought to canabilize the Android market - at the expense of other players. The real litigation challenge for Android manufacturers lies in Apple getting a resounding victory in the Motorola suit which Motorola started before it split into Motorola Mobility which is now in Google's hands - - this is where the fear of Apple's declaration of thermonuclear intent is a worry, this is where we should be saying "Apple grow the f$ up before you destroy innovation".

The guys who have really threatened Android with litigation thus far is Oracle. Microsoft has managed to wrangle itself into happy licensing fees arrangement and if Samsung had come on board so would Apple have been. Apple has been the defendant in dozens of smartphone war suits - Nokia and Motorola as shining examples, and its only HTC which I think Apple started. If you want something in Apple's corner to worry about its their recent patent acquisitions something which hasn't occured in the dark of the night.

Its a fact that Apple are a proprietary orientated douchey tech company BUT THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN. They have followed in the fine tradition of Edison and the consequences of their approach is that their products loose edge. Apple take great pains - and have since their inception - to prevent "cloning" of their products. IBM didn't prevent cloning in the early days, and well history tells you which trajectory of home computing took ground.

It's also about Apple abusing the loopholes in the patent system. You're most welcome to support a douchy company, just don't expect me to.

This is actually the core of the misconception Samsung is trying to generate. Apple isn't abusing loopholes, Samsung is trying to.

Attempting to patent prior art is detered in the system by the applicant incurring costs for a patent that will be worthless. In fact part of the Motorola suit is Motorola claiming that 7 of Apple's patents are prior art and it wants the patents declared invalid - BTW I don't believe any of those 7 patents was at issue in the Samsung issue but I haven't checked.

The fact that you can attempt to register prior art isn't a loophole in the system its part of the system. Also prior art patents aren't really what is at issue with trade dress - which is really the focus on rectangles and stuff.
 
Apple patented stuff like rectangles with rounded corners, pinch to zoom, slide to unlock and bounce-back which are all prior art.

They probably have some original stuff too, but they are mainly suing on the prior art stuff.

Yeah I pretty much agree. Everyone knows Apple can be an unpleasant company to deal with, it's just their culture and the nature of tech which is an absolute warfield.

What I dont understand is why people honestly think Samsung represents a better alternative. They've bullied and cloned their way to creating a terrible monopoly in android. Their behaviour in the trial was childish and reprehensible. They have a poor track record of long term support for their devices, whereas Apple just extended ios6 to iphone 3gs for pitys sake. And theyre an unscrupulous publicity machine.

The right product at the right price. It's all that I am interested in as a consumer. Apple wants to take away choice and lock in consumers.

Exactly.

I recently bought an Asus TF700T Full HD tablet, IMO it is better than any Samsung tablets (or Apple, for that matter).

But I must say that my old Motorola Xoom is still really great, it recently received an OTA Jelly Bean update and still really works well. I gave it to my sister, but sometimes regret that - I can still recommend this tablet to someone who does not demand a Full HD screen (BTW, Samsung does not have a Full HD tablet).

IMO the best Samsung Tablet is the 7.7" P6800, which has a good 1280x800 resolution for a smaller form factor tablet (same screen resolution as the Nexus 7).
