Yes.

For example, I didn't like the standard gallery or camera apps. I downloaded new apps, set them to 'default' and hid the other icons. So my default apps are the better (IMO) gallery and camera I have.

When the iPad announced iPhoto, I thought I could do the same ... but I couldn't? You can't remove the standard photo app and the icon is always visible? It's the default and can't change.

I can glance and see my shares instantly ... have the calander on the screen and if I choose, have Live wallpapers that look awesome. With the iPad, I needed to LOG onto an app everytime to see shares ... LOG into calendars etc.

My Android looks different to every one I've seen and is setup for me - the content I like and use.

Lol, you do realise those are made by Samsung & LG? But hey seeing as the panels are used in apple products it must be an apple innovation.

Apple has however applied to trademark the word "Retina" ;) I'll have to have my retinas removed now in order to avoid a possible law suite.

So in future if Samsung etc brings a higher resolution display to market they will be blamed for copying apple.

Quite the opposite actually. I am constantly fiddling with my devices and have been doing so since my HTC HD2.
Between the constant Android revisions and 3rd party launchers/apps there is always something to fiddle with. As Dolby says, no other Android device looks like mine.

Annoys the cr@p out of my wife. That said though, since changing from her BB to the S2 she has her eyes glued to the screen more and more.

If you ain't had it, you won't miss it.

For me the novelty wears off after a while. In fact I'm looking at getting a basic phone for my next smartphone because with the iPad my phone has been relegated to just cellular services.

I am however curious to see what they are bringing to the table. Hoping not another piece of awesome hardware with software that won't require even a third of it.

The Apple displays are made by several manufacturers including LG, Sharp and Samsung, but they are to Apple design and specifications. Samsung also make chips for Apple. These are separate divisions of Samsung - these parts are not supplied by their mobile division. These kind of sourcing agreements are common. Nikon may use a Sony sensor in a DSLR. The Toyota 86 has an engine from Subaru. All these suppliers are grateful for the business.

The Retina branding is what Apple use. Samsung use things like Super AMOLED Plus and HD Super AMOLED. Which do you think works better for the man in the street?

1080p refers to a fixed number of pixels regardless of screen size. The smaller the screen, the higher the density. The retina display on an iPhone 4 actually already has a higher pixel density than a 40" 1080p TV.

According to your argument, there are lots of individual phones that have a single feature better than the iPhone. Big deal. In my opinion the year old iPhone 4S already has the best combination of all these features, and the iPhone 5 is still to come!

If Apple sold their phones for a grand less, the carriers would just make more profit and their contract packages would be unchanged - I wouldn't be the one to benefit. There is no evidence to suggest that any of the carriers would offer hugely discounted contracts if Apple reduced their price.

I'm not talking about TV screens, 1080p screens for cellphones have already been demoed, that far surpasses retina PPI. Android was the first to support a 800x480 screen, Apple was first with 960x640, its a natural evolution, not some revolutionary idea. Manufacturers are always trying to improve screen resolution, it's only Apple that gave it a special name and made it out to be something they invented (but I don't think that surprises anyone).

Out of all the cellphone makers Apple has the greatest control over carriers, if they didn't want carriers making obscene profits they'd ensure they didn't. And why don't carriers add on all this extra profit on other cellphone brands? Only Apple? Point is Apple is the one overcharging you. Carriers rip you off on call, sms and data charges. not phone sales

HTC and LG are working on 5" displays with 1920 x 1080 pixels, which relates to about 440 ppi, which is indeed higher than the iPhone's 326 ppi. The advantage of pixel density higher than the human eye can discern is debatable, but the downside would be a huge drain on battery and the need for some serious processing power. However, the point I was making is that Apple use the term "Retina" to brand the displays on their devices, other manufacturers have names like "Super AMOLED Plus" and "HD Super AMOLED". Why pick on Apple for branding their displays when Samsung also do it? Is it just because Apple does a better job of marketing it?

I still don't get your point on cost. I don't pay a cent to Apple for my phone. I pay it to Vodacom (in my case). On my contract I could have gotten an iPhone, a Samsung or an HTC at exactly the same monthly cost. This may have changed now, but 18 months ago that was the case. I have no idea what Vodacom pay for an iPhone vs an S3 currently.

Personally, I would never say the 4S camera is the best phone camera available. However, when the 4S was released, it had a better camera than any of the Android competitors. The N8 had a great camera, but how many did they sell? Nobody wanted a Symbian phone, so they put in a great camera to try and stay relevant.

A great camera is a good start but I'm more interested in what software is available after you take the photo, not only with the phone but with a dslr or video camera. Filterstorm and Snapseed are two of my favourite apps on iOS but they don't seem to be available on other platforms.
