Apple TV 4 - Apps, Tips & Tricks

Wondering if this is a once in a while opportunity. I have two Apple TV 4's and while I don't need one now, I do have a 2 and 4 year old that use it.

I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have one. Plus if you really don't need it, sell it later at about R1000 still make a profit off it.

Ordered 1 as an insurance policy since I dropped one earlier this year, and it hurt replacing it... 1300 bucks...:-(
Strangely my v active 2 yr old ismore careful with it than me... he loves the Tee Tee!

If you rent a movie via iTunes on the appletv, do have to wait for it to completely download/buffer?

Reason is, got a message that I could start playing the movie, but nothing it just showed the "busy" icon, so nothing happened.

I have 4meg line, showmax, Netflix and youtube all stream fine without any problems.

No. It shouldn't be that way, mine plays instantaneously if the kids aren't hammering the connection.

The interface will notify you of the time, eg "Ready to play in 1 minute". This is dependent on your connection speed and the quality setting you have selected. The recent update has introduced 2 options under Settings>Apps>iTunes Movies and TV Shows>Video which are "Best available" (this will choose the best available resolution for your connection speed) and "Good" (think this defaults to SD).

Thanks, I will go have a look at the quality settings and then try again to see what happens.

My remote was finally delivered today. Not the best delivery service but for the price, well worth it.

You get this sorted?

Unfortunatly no, changed the video settings in for itunes movies to be SD and low quality. Rented another film, took over 15mins before i could play/stream it.

The video at least started, but when i paused it, and wanted to play again i had ro wait awhile again.

Seems itunes servers don't like my connection :(

As stated above, line running max speeds, youtube, shiwmax and netflix streaming with no problem.

Will try watching the movie via ipad and see how it does.

Mine does it for HD movies.. downloads such that u can watch from start to end without buffering. Never tried with SD but I suspect the same principle persists.. this is the way YouTube was before they did the dynamic quality adjustment

I also watch in HD but I don't have the issue of waiting. Max wait is 1 minute. But then again I have a PtP connection with Wirulink.

Can you install ipwnstore with a PC or do you need a mac?

My Apple tv froze tonight. Non-Apple apps would not open at all but I could open the native apps like settings and photos. Anyone else with the same issue?

It's happening on both my Apple TV 4's.

Which service where you using? Mine also stopped working because Apple revoked many certificates from signing services such as Ipwnstore and Ipastore. I am with Ipwnstore and they are busy moving affected clients to other certificates but you have to submit a ticket on their website.

All worked this morning after I ran an update.

Strange though, I don't have any unauthorised applications running. Oh well, back to watching Trolls....
