I finally got an ethernet cable to my TV area and seeing as my Fire TV is limited to 100Mbps, I thought I'd splurge on an Apple TV 4K with ethernet which has a Gigabit speed to take advantage of my 500Mbps line.

I'm flying through Qatar to Europe next week so checked out some prices and it turns out it's actually cheaper here. No-one is beating the Computer Mania price of R3499 overseas or here. Incredible and iStore R3599, Takealot R3699.

Anyone know anywhere else I should be looking?

For what do you need more than 100mbs

Is that .com or .co.za?

But anyway, the ethernet attachment is an add on and is a bit wonky and doesn't always work. It's been getting worse lately and it appears to be a thing when searching for solutions. So, upgrade time.

DigiCape and Macnificent have them at R3599 too, and those would be the stores I'd have suggested.

Press play at Computer Mania IMO.

I have an Apple tv myself and would always suggest it. Was just puzzled about the 100mbs.
As for price, they pretty standard. Avo shop sometimes have good specials on them.
I got a secondhand 2021 model with 64gb and all the 2021 models have ethernet. Got is for 1.8k and still under warrantee.

See Avo shop have it for R2999, did not look if they have stock

Just looked, R3499 for the 128gb with ethernet (sorry, should have specified that).

Actually just thinking I'll wait until tomorrow for Takelaot. They sometimes have a 15th day of the month special and get 15% back in eBucks.

If you are with FNB remember the 15% back in ebucks at iStore.

May make it cheaper for you as well, depending on.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with the Ethernet. I already don’t use it.

That's what I was thinking. I've never bought anything on the 15th, but is the 15% right across the board on all products or does it have to have the FNB sticker thing in the corner?

Takealot it’s only the FNB deal stuff.

IStore it’s on everything all the time.

Ah, gotcha. eBucks at iStore for the win. I’ll wait until tomorrow and hopefully Takealot have a discount as well what with the new models due soonish.

New models due when, and what is different/new?

No idea, I saw in a post on here somewhere about the potential new models for all of the Apple products and seem to recall the TV was up for a refresh before the end of the year.

They could use the A17 Pro in a future Apple TV to take advantage of AV1 hardware decoding - but I suspect that would cause too much of a price increase.

2024 Launch

Apple plans to release the next Apple TV in the first half of 2024, according to Gurman, but no specific timeframe is known at this point. Previous models of the Apple TV 4K launched in November 2022, May 2021, and September 2017

I find MacRumors' guidance on when to purchase Apple products quite useful. However, it's worth noting that the last model arrived about a year after the previous one.

Apple TV gets updates for 10 years so who cares when you buy it?
