Apple versus Adobe

Erm... Apple is the standard for music players - no matter what some have to say about the Cowan - they are also the standard for smart phones, and they are now also the standard for touch pads. The own the biggest chunk of profitability in the laptop and PC market. They are very nearly the highest market cap company in the US.

Which competitor exactly do they need to catch up to?

Microsoft sort of springs to mind!

Meh, not really. MS have been playing catch for quite a while now. The reason they haven't been hit that hard is because they had a market monopoly to begin with. This combined with Mac's generally higher cost and Linux's perception as not being user friendly stopped someone from stepping into the gap. MS have kinda redeemed themselves with Windows 7.

Don't agree with this fully ... Android is picking up quite quickly .. from 1% a year ago to 9% now in Market share ... Apple has 14% with iPhone ... although not sure on iPad stats ... wonder what will happen with Android tablets?

Edit: And my comment has nothing to do with the flash argument ... just saying android is catching up and developers can make a bucketload here too

Only problem is that the android bucket is about 100 times smaller than the apple one.

There was a link on DaringFireball the other day to a VC saying that even though he didn't support Apple's stance on flash it was the only platform he would invest money in.

I have an iPhone and I'd like Flash, thank you very much. I've seen it running fine on a HTC Desire. So bye bye iPhone.

I think the whole argument of flash and apple is
why doesnt apple let the consumers decide if they want to use flash or not. Give them the option to turn it off!
its more like apple not giving consumers the choice, just as multitasking was a big issue.

Adobe has not considered lowering the prices of their products for the poor Africa...

Should we feel sorry for them?

Please take 5 minutes and compare what the average consumer pays to Amazon for Adobe software, and we are are asked to pay here.

The never ending story...

the argument of why you wont support adobe cause their prices are high here in SA...well that is not the right way of looking at things.
Apple prices are very very high in south africa....does that mean we should stop supporting them?

Sorry for that... maybe I should have written what I meant.... MP3 players, not music players.

As for evidence... how about the bestseller list on Amazon.com.

It's not my fault that in SA a shade under 400,000 working people live a halfway decent lifestyle and the remainder are on the verge of abject poverty.

Seems like what you saw running on the Desire is Flash lite... If you want Flash running on Android it sounds like you have to wait for it go move out of "pre-beta" and get a phone that the manufacturer upgrade to "froyo and above" (whatever the hell that means).

Sounds like it's going to be working fine "imminently" :D

Good luck with that. Maybe hold on to the iPhone a while longer?

Hmmm

Firstly, flash is a burning crock of sh*t. It is the #1 reason my browser (chrome) crashes, thank G0d for Chrome and its sand-boxed tabs! I would NEVER ever ever want it on a mobile device. That is... until they make a version that isn't a system hog/system crasher deluxe version. Then sure, bring it on. In 3 years they havent been able to get such a version out.... still waiting, and I have a feeling the people at android are going to be waiting even longer than they think.

Secondly: A huge HUGE HUGE percentage of Adobe 'creative users' are on mac and are extremely loyal to it. I am one of those users. Though I am also loyal to the Adobe brand. If they decided to pull away from Mac, I would turn my back and forget Adobe ever exited, use my old apps and plan the fastest exit route possible.
The fact is that for someone in the creative industry a Mac is the best ecosystem to work in. My productivity has skyrocketed since moving over to it. Adobe shouldn't make moves agains Apple too quickly in the CS -range. I'm sure it knows as much.

Basically Adobe needs to get off their Asses and make Flash a sleek-super fast program....that can deal with mobile devices. What have they been doing over the last 3 years! It might already be too late.

...and secondly, if users really wanted to use their software, then they could operate them from bootcamp - and it would run better from a Apple computer rather than from a BSOD PC ,and their annoying popups, and virus ***.

That is probably the biggest load of BS I have heard in the last couple of days. Did you actually read what you wrote?

even on my nokia cell i have the option of switching flash lite on and off so dont see y that is a problem.

Hate how the Apple fan boys always have so much to say bout how wonderful apple is, but they hardly have any global penetration. For instance it was mentioned that Apple is the benchmark for smartphones... Uhmm really, maybe u forgot that Nokia is the leader in that sector and looking at local figures the Blackberry outsold the iphone. Windows is still the leading OS in the world. So people should catch a wake up "This is not the USA so stop licking Apples nuts"

Don't forget though the Market app doesn't allow paid apps in some places yet ... but in terms of freeware with ad revenue, its gaining ground I think. Plus with all the new Android phones coming up I think android will become a serious contendor.

And if we wait till September, then Windows-Mobile-name-so-long-I-can't-be-bothered-to-find-out-what-it-is will wipe the floor with iPhone and Android.

Sorta like the Zune killed the iPod?

Welcome and congratulations on your second post. I've PM a link to a torrent download of free copy of Vista posted just for you. Enjoy. You deserve it.

Apologies... that was just me being nasty. Can I make it up to you by posting a second Vista torrent link. And just to show that I'm really sorry, let me throw in a link to Windows Me too.

I wish the journalists of the world would simply let Flash die quietly. Proprietary systems do not belong on the public Internet.
