Hi all,

Well it seems as if the "downlink stop" problem has been stopped ;-) on my side. I have been online for about 2 hours yesterday and no problem experienced. Will continue testing today.

Thanks to V3G and all whom helped.

I'm back in Cape Town and so far, my link has not terminated unexpectedly, though throughput over the link has not paused for more than 10 minutes at a time. I will give further feedback at a later stage.

I don't think you're seeing the same problem, the initial problem was the downlink would stop completely. Typically you would need to disconnect and reconnect to get it working again.

In your case it recovers automatically between 5 to 10 seconds.

Something must have happened last night, maybe my updated profile, was re-updated, but been connected for 3.5hours now, and no problems - yet or hopefully - the downlink stop seems to have sorted itself out, and the throughput has increased too:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 6.39 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 638.5 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 78.2 (kiloBytes/second)

Thanks to all concerned for sorting it out:D

Whoaa!!!
Swopped my 3g card for the hsdpa card....Awsome!!
Downloaded a 1.88M attachment in under 10 seconds!!

Now I know why Vodacom made the swop out free..they are going to coin it on over used bandwidth..!!

Current Downlink Stop Issue

I think I spoke too soon ...

After nearly 5 hours of seamless connectivity, the link died - but this time it never came back up, and I had to restart the software, and re-insert the card, but back up and running again, let's see for how long this time...

First time this month I've been connected for long enough to type a post (this one) without my link stopping.

Cautiously optimistic, seems V3G and the team has fixed my problem!:D

[OFF TOPIC]Now will everybody who already have HSDPA cards PLEASE stop bragging!!!

I had this problem on my Fusion UMTS GPRS - 3G Modem data card and now also on the new one

so far connected for 1h42 min:eek:

So far, connected for 1.5 hrs neither with any disconnects, nor with the zero data transfer problem. However, my mail client checks for new messages every 30 min, so no telling whether this helps me stay online ;) So far, a HUGE improvement.... not sure what else has been amended on my profile, subsequent to the original change (and complete card reset)? vodacom3g, has anything else been changed since then?

Thanks, finally some results. vodacom3g, thank you for being proactive, the service industry needs more people like you.

I have a very strange phenomina with my card...When exiting the program, the hsdpa card does not disconnect..It remains flashing the 3g(double blue flash..)until the final moments of shutting down windows or untill I remove the card from the port..it stays connected..
If I did not remove it,it will stay on...
Anyone else noticed this??

Yes, this is normal.

When you plug the card in it will immediately connect to the network at a radio level. When you then click on the 'Connect' button, it will connect to the TCP/IP network.

Same for disconnect which will just remove you from the IP network.

If you're not on the IP network, no data will flow.

The Novatel 3G card used to be different, it needed the dash to work, while the Option cards don't need the dash.

Worse problems with new cards....

After reading the thread about getting the new card for free, I rushed out to get one - hoping it would solve some of these lost downlink problem.

But unfortunately it just became worse, and even more, it seems as if the performance of everything degraded if I compare it to this morning.

Hope it is just temporary. Will try 155 to see if they can resolve the problem

Brand new Option Globe Trotter 3G+, staying connected (downlink )approximately only 1 minute.

Max speed seen so far with this card 58kB/s comparable to the old 3g speed, only less reliable:(
