Ok, I did have problems with my 3G card before, but they were seemed to disapear after a while, now I have just upgraded to HSDPA and I am experiencing many problems. Sometimes while loading a page, downloading an email or even uploading to the net my connection is lost, I am still connected but there is no data transfer.

When HSDPA does work it goes fast, but at times it is really slow, I mean slower than my 3G card was, I have no idea why it simply stops working for a while. Sometimes it doesn't work for over 5 mins, even reconnecting doesn't fix the problem.

2) Your location (as accurate as possible): Rustenburg, Protea Park X1
3) The 3G cell number, first 5 digits, ex. 082-99x-xxxx : 082-30
4) Your setup (data card type, SIM type): Merlin U740; SIM type: 32K
6) Your APN (internet, internetvpn): internet

Firmware: 15.4-15.4-00
VMC: 7

Still having super problems too , can only use GPRS at this stage. 3G connect and then disconnects after a few mins [1-5 mins] and then throw 619 errors on reconnect, then back to GPRS [which works]..then i try 3G again later..work for a while..disconnection..get error 619..back to GPRS..repeat.

Location : Lyttelton, Centurion [near the Airforce Base]
3G Cell No: 082-92-xxxxx
Setup : Option Globetrotter 3G+
Firmware : 3.15.0hd (Feb 06 2006)
VMC: 6.03.0002
APN : internet
Profile Use : GPRS Only and 3G Only

PS : I do not get this using an MTN sim with the exact same setup. Reason why i don't continue using MTN? ...i have 500MB on my Voda contract and well it's the 10th now and i haven't been able to use it.

And now I just got an error 692, I had to remove the card and insert it again before the software would connect.

Your number was one of the affected ones. I've asked the guys to check if your profile was updated and will let you know as soon as I get feedback.

In a sense, I hope they missed your number......

GlobeTrotter 3G+ Problems

I have a GlobeTrotter 3G+ and can't get it to connect the first time round on most occassions. It keeps giving me error 619 and after a few retries it will connect. The firmware version is 3.150Hd and the VMC version number is 6.03.0002. I didnt experience any issues with the previous Novatel Card. This GlobeTrotter card seems to be troublesome and keeps dropping the connection as well. Please suggest what I can about this.

3G, I am somewhat disappointed about not receiving any reply about my problem. It is getting worse and worse - not only does it regularly disconnect (less than one minute inactivity or better: while I am writing e.g. this message, had to reconnect three times), now I cannot connect at 3G any more. Is Vodacom unable to handle and deliver 3G AS IT SEEMS ?? Shouldn't Vodacom then re-emburse us ??

I've asked the guys to do a trace on your number, but have not heard anything yet.

Won't you PM me your physical location and contact details in the mean-time?

More 3G Woes...

V3G, my problems were sorted on the day the Siemens guy was sent to my house. Unfortunately this only lasted 1 week, with now another irritating problem persisting:

After successful connection, the connection is lost, ie disconnect for some reason. This is not the same as the previous time when I just lost the down link, ie the server stopped responding.

Trying to reconnect results in a number of errors, alternating between 31 and 619, I’m not online long enough to find the meaning of this.

After a number of re-attempts it is usually successful, and then the whole process repeats itself.

Reading through this (last 2 page) it seems as if this is also now a generic problem…

Any ideas how to rectify?

(155 suggest using the "GPRS preferred profile") - I don't understand the logic in this...

Checking the stability with a GPRS-only profile will point to a 3G coverage issue, so it's not an invalid test.

Note, a test only, no-one is expecting you to work permanently on GPRS!

Can you check it out and let me know?

Had that 619 - 31 error thing for the past week+ too, always had to resort to GPRS. Today it's all fine again [or rather now] . I think it's more a congestion thing than a coverage thing in my case, as certain times of the day [ like 9am
on a saturday] i actually get HSDPA speeds , but 6pm-8pm during the week in the evening i might as well go to bed.

I'm on GPRS now (GPRS Only profile). Huge difference from the previous weeks' HSDPA.

But once again, seems like this is the only way I can have some work done.

BTW: 155 suggested that using the GPRS preferred profile would make it more stable as too many people are using the 3G only profile!

Have also been experiencing error 31 & 619. HSDPA cards (especially the novatel U740) seem to have a problem switching to another profile. eg. from 3G only to GPRS only. You eventually have to re-create the profile to get connected.

The signal is strong, but the cards seem erratic when it comes to changing profiles, also removing the card and closing and re-opening the dashboard helps, but it's quicker to set up a new profile.

V3G, with my problems indicated above, how would I know if:
1) The problem is on my isde, ie computer HW/SW?
2) The problems is on the 3g card?
3) The problem is on the 3G network?

(Looking at the large number of similar experiences above, I would tend to believe it is closer to #3, unless a bad batch of cards were imported and distributed ie #2)
