Suggestion (V3G?): How about setting up a speedtest site on the Vodacom network, so we can measure the downlink directly (more or less) instead of having to go through to Telkom or other sites (with associated bandwidth reductions!)?

Try: http://speed.vodacom.co.za/test/

Thanks V3G! Also two bars, gives the following:

Download Speed: 801 kbps (100.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Not bad! :D

Got happy way too fast! Can't even get a connection now!

PS. If I knew it was going to be this k@k, I would never have signed up! :(

Not great. Any way to trouble shoot and improve this? I'm in Cape Town, Rondebosch, St Andrews Road, 2 blocks from Belmont Ave.

Hi all

Got back from a few days off to see great news on network changes, card upgrades and reductions on 3G tariffs!

Thanks V3G, all excellent news and service, I'm working on 3G from JHB today, all working fine for 50min now.

I'll keep on-line and comm if anything slips.

Speed test (on 3G)
Download Speed: 343 kbps (42.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 57 kbps (7.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

:D

OK, going off now, just over 3 hrs with no problem. This included around 40 min of complete inactivity (no effect on the 3G connection), before posting this reply

yee-ha!

@ V3g just so u know i got a call from Yusaf at voda and we found out that the tower i get my signal from at home has not been fully handed over to voda yet (siemans are still trouble shooting it after a few month of it being up) that explains why i dnt have problems in vanderbijl and at the office on occasions when adsl goes down (read quite often).

New Problem As @ 27-04-06

Im having erratic, hesitant, retarded downlink problems. Disconnecting and connecting again doesn't help, so its safe to say that this isn't the same problem as we had before. Page requests takes agonisingly long to load up. It'll either hang on request or freeze up part of the way through.

At this point in time, (12h55PM 28-04-06), 3G/HSDPA connectivity is hunky-dory again.
 And that was posted at 12:49! :p

But I agree. Connection seems stable again, and quite fast! Now just need to get an external antenna...

I havnt had any problems this month with access so I R being happy :)

I am getting the following problem:-
My phone shows connected to 3G at zero signal. I have netmonitor installed but I have NOT selected 3G only. Data stalls. If I switch off and on again the problem persists. If I move the phone to an area of the house which doesn't get 3G, the 3G indicator goes off, my signal strength returns, and data flows via GPRS.

On my HSDPA card, if I choose "3G Preferred, but also use GPRS" and I then try connect, I always get the following error:

"While attempting to connect, an error with the number 619 occured.
-the port is disconnected"

However when I choose to connect only using a "GPRS" connection, I dont get this error any more but then surf at a pace of a snail having salt poured on it. Please can someone help me? VC3G? Anyone? Please.............

Have you tried creating a 3G only profile? This seems to be more stable than the 3G preferred...

Have a strange problem this morning: Surfing goes well, at decent speeds, but I can not retrieve POP!
