Aramex global shopper

On the SAD500 declaration, the R1500 Aramex quoted is for VAT only.

The declared rand value for the toy is about R9000 but it should have been HKD 749 x 1.58 = ZAR 1183.42

1 HKD = ZAR 1.58

So actual value R 1183.42
Declared value R 9000

The cost of good on the Aramex page is
Cost of goods:
108.9487179487 USD

This is the reason why i stay away from anything above R500

I agree. Anything above R450 seems to be a customs target. Be very cautious. If over that amount, work on duty of 20% + VAT. Even if what you ordered is a cellphone and it is going to be 7% + VAT...work on 20% + VAT. Rather be happily wrong.

Unfortunately this advise doesn't help poor Pug at all as there seems to be a huge error on his side and he needs to hammer this out with Aramex, but for the rest of us, the only time you know you are certain you are safe from duty is if you know for absolute certainty that the item is not made here.

Even then, rather check before ordering. Phone a national express courier and ask, as duty is the same, no matter which courier company brings it in and they will be happy to help as they want your business.

I don't mind paying for a reasonable amount of customs duty + VAT but converting wrong currency to ZAR is a huge mistake.

Even if I pay duty of 20%
R1200 x 20% = 240
VAT R1200 x 14% = 168
Total duty + VAT = R 408 versus R 1500

Can't imagine if I import a Japanese toy of 1000 yen (=R 110 or USD 9) and Aramex declares it as 1000 USD...

They made a mistake - they need to rectify it and resubmit the SAD500 declaration form - it should just be a formality except with aramex everything is a tad chaotic.

They will require that pug sign all sorts of documents etc to correct their fsckup.

I am still awaiting a response from [email protected], Sent mails 6 and 2 days ago

Email tells me to upload invoice, but following instructions does not work, results in a "Shipment not found" error.

I was able to pay the shipping already

Anyone have better contact details?

I got that message using firefox. When I use chrome my shipment shows.

Hope that helps!

so firefox actually worked.

so I then dug further, and it turned out that ublock origin in chrome was blocking the AJAX request

If you want to use the Shanghai address, do not copy and paste the address given as it does not make sense.
Aramex has the address as Lane 248 Huqingping Highway.
There is no such highway.
It has taken blood, sweat and tears, and a lot of use of Google translate, to finally get the following address:

YOUR NAME YOUR, ACCOUNT NUMBER
Shanghai Minhang District, Shanghai New Rainbow Street
Unit 1, Building 15, No. 248 Hu Qing Ping Gong Lu,
Minhang District, Shanghai, China
201105 86-4006318388

Do not put your account number in the main body of the address as it seems to change the address in Chinese somehow. Rather put name, account number and then address.

This is the Chinese translation:
YOUR NAME YOUR, ACCOUNT NUMBER (use Google Translate to change into Chinese)
上海 上海市 闵行区 新虹街道
1单元, 15号楼, 248号 Hu Qing Ping Gong Lu,
闵行区, 上海市, 中国
201105 86-4006318388

If using TaoBao, you have no choice but to input the address in Chinese. This will take a stiff scotch and a load of patience.

However, it does work - I have been notified that my parcel has arrived in Shanghai. This makes two parcels that have arrived there so far.

I bought a phone for 200 dollars and it reached aramex warehouse. I was asked to upload an invoice. The company valued the goods as 20 dollars and uploaded an invoice for 20 dollars to my account. Do i upload that invoice to the AGS site or not as i don't have any other invoice to upload.

I don't even know what to tell you. If customs stop that phone (it probably has already been flagged as suspicious) they will immediately slap you with a non-appealable R2000 fine.
Believe me, I've been there, and my fine was R2500.
I think phone Aramex IMMEDIATELY and tell them the invoice from supplier is incorrect and pray.
