That's roughly double what AGS would charge, but you get what you pay for.

AGS don't offer a shipping service from JHB to the USA. Aramex themselves do, but why would anyone choose Aramex over Scotty, DHL, PBC, FEDEX?

24th Jan - arrived at Aramex depot - 900km travel - 3 business days.
26th Jan - arrived Dubai; (2 days).
27th Jan - arrived Jhb; (1 day) (total 8 days from day of order including weekends).
1st Feb - cleared customs (4 days).
5th Feb - still hasn't left from Jhb...(total 8 days from arrival in Jhb including weekends).

I have this "sms sent" line on my shipment history...but never received the sms.

What format should the cell# be on your profile for this to work? Mine is currently set as 2783aaabbbb (with actual numbers).

I actually receive these SMS's on the hour, at 08:03 or 09:03.

Better than nothing at all, which was the case before. This SMS system is a new feature that needs work - although I don't know if I would appreciate any SMS's at 4am in the morning.

Thats not an issue for me. My phone has a scheduler that turns on silent mode during my sleep hours. I have important contacts that can reach me through silent mode.

You have zero chance of using Aramex, or any other courier service, to bring in batteries of any kind.
Batteries exploding tend to bring down airplanes, that's why they go seamail.
