- They did not accept my Eskom statement as proof of address "because it did not look original" (it's a printed PDF in color)
- I also needed to provide them with a "letter of consent" that I am really the one applying for the code (which is obvious since I also supplied the DA185 forms)

It is now attempt number 3 at it....

4th attempt worked like a charm. All of the above applied. SARS was super sticky about getting original bank-statements with a stamp. They would not accept statements via internet banking or printed in the branch and we had to print statements via Autobank (SBSA) and then have them stamped by the bank. They also required a written letter from the bank confirming that those statements really belong to me.

Since I only have electronic statements (proof of address), I printed both an Eskom statement and a CoJ statement on a color laser printer on thicker paper (looks more "official") and then got it "notarised" by HR with a nice colorful commissioner of oath stamp.

Got the confirmation from SARS this morning (a proper letter from SARS with the importers code) and have forwarded this to Aramex who have loaded it onto my profile. Caveat is: I have nothing to order right now :-(
I literally had to write my own letter (on my own letterhead) to confirm that I am really applying and also to confirm my details (F**** knows why, as all of this in the application) - like this:
To Whom It May Concern:

Affidavit: Consent of application for importers code in private capacity and Confirmation of mobile number

Dear South African Revenue Service,

As requested I would like to confirm that I, XXXXX (ID Number XXXX), am applying for an importers code to be used in my private capacity for private consumption as per submitted DA185-4A1 and DA 185.

I furthermore would like to confirm that my only means of telephonic contact is via my mobile pre-paid number, +27 83 XXXXX which is serviced via the carrier CellC. Pre-paid numbers do not have invoices or statements and the ownership of my number can be confirmed via a RICA subscriber request to CellC directly via SARS. Alternatively you can verify my SARS income-tax record for income tax number XXXX, which also has the same mobile number on record.

Should you require any further information do not hesitate to contact me directly on +27 83 XXXXX.

Warm regards,

Thanks for reposting Dee

Can one personally submit these docs at any SARS office?

Is medication through AGS an issue?

Very much so.
I wanted to get a multivitamin for my mother from Amazon.
I received this from Olivia:
"Kindly note that you would be able to move this item from JFK, however when it to South Africa, Port Health is going to require a MCC Form to ensure that it can be cleared properly. You will be able to request this document from your Supplier."

My parcel hit the NY depot Thursday and F Sazo signed for it. I'm yet to receive a parcel confirmation from aramex end. This is a 1st for me so I'm hoping its nothing to worry about.

can sometimes take up to 4 business days before it shows up in your account. That is, if you and the sender made sure your code is in it.

Sometimes Aramex is blind and doesn't see your code on package.
That has never happened to me. The only time I had to phone them to get it sorted, was when the ebay seller decided to skip that part of the delivery address. Now I have it as part of my name.

Thanks for the replies.
I usually have the code written on the 2nd line of the address.

Will wait and see what happens.

Had an issue with the UK office (I think) a couple months ago - email said my package will be delayed because my code wasn't used. When I looked at the picture of the package they had uploaded it was there.

So, the new Shop & Ship app now sends push messages. Imagine my surprise when I see this:
Customs 957.35 ZAR
Especially as I only paid R826.33 for the item from China.
My email to Aramex:
What the heck? CNY is not USD!
I paid 370 Chinese Yuan, not 370 US DOLLARS.

This is not the first time Aramex have screwed up in this regard. Nor will it be the last.

Ordered a mobo from Aliexpress for $72 (R1050) using AGS. Currently in the 7 day processing stage before it gets shipped to the AGS address. Honestly worried after reading all of the issues some of the people had here. Will update everyone on how it goes since this is my first time dealing with them.

There is no duty on a motherboard, but you will be charged 15% VAT on the entire amount.
Also, expect a delay as Fri was was a Chinese national holiday.

Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. Honestly just cancelled my order. Will give the Taobao site a try. Managed to get everything working just navigating around the addressing section. Saved your post a couple of pages back and it's a lifesaver.

@DeeinSouthAfrica Oh and another thing. I see you mentioned the app is a pain to navigate around. No worries, if you have a rooted smart phone with Xposed you can auto translate the entire app with Alltrans module.

Will look something like this:

I had the same problem in January this year. 749 Hong Kong dollar was declared erroneously as 749 USD. AGS demand R1500 customs duty. AGS never sorted out my issue via phone calls and emails. AGS at Hong Kong entered the amount correctly but the South African side messed up.

I ended up paying that crazy amount after a few days because my son wanted that toy I ordered from HK.

One month later, they are happily declared they have successfully delivered my order. No mention of any mistakes they made.

This is not the first time Aramex Global Shopper have screwed up.
Demand the SAD 500 and other clearance documents be loaded onto the webpage.
If the seller really did put an USD invoice in parcel (happened to me once with a Chinese parcel) Aramex will happily load documents for your perusal.
If they have screwed up, they will not load documents and will ignore you.
Then you start emailing. Every second day you ask for a progress update.
Last time it took over a month for them to acknowledge their mistake, but I won eventually.
