Nope not an importer/exporter - just your average joe trying to get a bargain ;)

I won a bid on an iphone and paid via paypal. So no turning back now. This item only ships (from uk) to uk address so put my AGS London address. For you and other that has done this many times how should I handle this to ensure the least amount of hassles?

I assume the next step will be a notification from AGS via email when they receive the item. Or should I keep checking the website? Then - as far as invoices go I assume I will have to upload one to the AGS site. Do I just take a screenshot of the paypal transaction emailed to me (although it shows Apple iPhone SE - 16GB - Space Grey (Vodafone) A1723 (CDMA + GSM) ) on the invoice - is the 'vodafone' maybe a giveaway that it is second hand and should I rather make my own invoice?

Thanks for your assistance guys.
If you can still change your shipping address try postbox-courier uk. They are relatively cheap from the UK compared to their USA dept which is a tad on the expensive side and they will give you better service and less hassles than Aramex Global.

Though surprisingly I had two relatively pain-free experiences recently with Aramex couriers not AGS...go figure.

How long does clearance in JHB take at the moment? My latest parcel got processed and I paid customs over a week ago but still no movement.

When you order, look online at the Aramex Global Shopper website, If you click on the shipping number you will be taken to a more comprehensive page that shows shipping details. At the bottom of this page is a section saying UPLOAD INVOICE. Click on the CHOOSE FILE rectangle. If paying by PayPal use the PayPal invoice they email you.
If you have opted out of getting emails from PayPal, use the snipping tool on your computer and save a .jpg copy of the invoice you received. Upload this.
DO NOT upload screenshots or send .png images - Aramex reject these.

Just got an email that they received my iphone at their london hub. When I click on the shipment number it says "Shipment Not Found". Found this faq - should I just send the invoice to jnb@aramexglobalshopper.com ?

Screenshot of the ebay order is usually all you need to upload to AGS, they then create an invoice on your behalf and it is usually smooth sailing. I only b other with paypal screenshot and bank statements _if_ they ask for it.

Can I just forward the "Receipt for your payment" email I got from paypal after buying the item on ebay to abovementioned address?

Yes, email the invoice with the tracking number that PayPal sent you.
Also include a screen grab (. jpg or. pdf) of your ebay purchase.

Disable your adblocker on the site and it will find your shipment

Thanks to both of you for your help / quick replies seeing that this is my first time using AGS.
So after disabling my adblocker I can see the shipment details.

So "Cost of goods" shows GBP10. Where would they get this figure from, seeing that my paypal invoice is for GBP51
Any case would it be enough to just forward my paypal invoice sent by email or must I include a screenshot of the ebay order as well?

The £10 is a guesstimate. Usually its much higher and gives people heart attacks. Aramex know for sure what the price is when you upload the invoice.
Always upload invoice + screen grab. The more the merrier. Just make sure your screen grab is a .pdf or a .jpg. Aramex do not appreciate .png screen grabs.

Ok another quick question.

I uploaded my invoice(s) yesterday and setup automatic payment on paypal. My package is 0.67kg which equals R304 shipping. Few minutes back they charged my paypal $19.91 which currently equals R318.75 as confirmed by fnb sms.

Should I in future rather link a credit card (I assume they would charge in ZAR) and then save a few bucks by not bringing exchange fees into it - or do they still charge in USD?

ZAR CC is always cheaper than Paypal. Whenever I check the Paypal price, its always more than paying directly with SA CC.

As @Tinuva said, ALWAYS make Paypal charge your card in Dollars and let your bank do the currency conversion. If Paypal is left to convert, they do it at a much higher rate.

My paypal is set to charge my card in dollars. What I meant and he confirmed is that I should not link my paypal as auto payment method but instead link my SA cc on the AGS website.

I never set anything to auto-payment.
They inform me that I must pay for a shipment - and I pay it.
I have zero trust in Aramex's financial department.
On 26 September last year a Chinese shipment of ¥502 is put through in US$. Had I set my card to auto-payment I would have been royally screwed.
I refused to pay and my fight went on until almost Christmas.

I have questions regarding a kickstarter I'm backing - no I'm not very worried about the usual KS fly-by-nights as they are well established and already massively successful with previous campaigns

They are going to release in different waves and I'm currently backing the Wave 1 (AU, NZ, Asia, Pacific) tier, however I don't want our postal service to touch the package at any point. After messaging them, they said that they usually ship from their US location via US mail and cannot make exceptions.

I'm considering either switching to a US tier (receiving it in a much later wave) and shipping to a US Aramex address, or alternatively keeping my current tier and either still shipping to the US address (there may be an additional cost when switching countries), or sending it to some other AU/NZ/Asia country's address (Possibly incurring extra charges or customs?)

I've also directly sent them another message asking which would be the best way forward, but while I'm waiting - any suggestions to where to send the package to? Would I need to pay another country's customs if I send a package there only to have it sent back out and is there any way to indicate that?

Edit: Changed to wave 11 US pledge while waiting for responses since US ones are quickly going while the AU/NZ/Asia pledge still has plenty of spots open

Edit2: Received a response from them where they say it's fine for me to keep my AU tier and just give a US based address, so Aramex NY address it will be then!

I've used aramex once, but i just need to know something.. We pay the aramex fee when the item arrives so they can deliver to us... But we have to still pay customs right?

You pay them by weight to ship to SA, then customs when it arrives. As far as I know, included in the customs payment is import duty, VAT and usually R50 disbursement fee for them to clear it.

Thanks to all that answered my questions on the last few pages. Like I said, it was my first time using AGS and so far the experience was good. Some people told me the limit was 3 imports per year before needing an importers code, others said 6. Basically I was just hoping for the best when I started counting my imports so far this year: (this only after buying the item on ebay that was going via AGS):

2x electronic items on gearbest (used their express shipping)
1 x computer item on amazon.com (amazon expedited shipping)
1 x computer item on amazon.co.uk (amazon expedited shipping)
1 x tshirt ordered from a UK website

So the phone in progress via AGS is now my 6th item this year and it seemed to have cleared customs without any queries.
Progress:

You are the reason why Aramex stays in business. They won't shop you to SARS and report to them how many imports you have made this year. Oh no. They need your money.
However, sooner or later a computer program will look at your ID Number and put 2 + 2 together and the word will go out to Aramex to request your import code.
It happened to me - some nameless Aramex clerk phoned me and asked for my import code.
I was understandably livid as I have been importing through Aramex for years and have been an Importer / Exporter equally as long and if he had gone tappity-tap on his computer he would have realised this and saved himself a phone call...
But had I not been able to rattle off the my import code things would have been very different.
The nameless clerk wouldn't have cared, but I wouldn't have been dealing with him anymore - I would have been dealing with the government, AKA Customs.
And they have zero sense of humour.

not sure what you mean by "report to them how many imports you have made this year" cause my other imports did not go via aramex - think it was dhl and only one was via "normal" aramex.

But yeah, my imports are done for the year, not gonna push my luck. BTW, it was you that sent me the dhl page that mentions 6 imports per year - which gave me hope.

I think it is 6. DHL would know. I believe that being German owned they would check and double check everything before writing.
As to SARS customs knowing - we live in a computer age. It doesn't matter if you import through Aramex or DHL, FedEx or (shudder) the post office. Everything gets entered somewhere. It would be nice to say you could import 15 - 20 items a year without being noticed, but I think you, (or anyone reading this) would be walking on very thin ice.
I know it is a hassle getting an import code, but it's free, whereas getting fined for not having one works out to be very expensive indeed.
