I had two parcels arrive at local customs a day apart. The one cleared immediately, and the other has been "stuck" for 10 days. This has happened in the past and it makes no sense to me. I then submitted a customer care request ticket on the AGS website. Usually nothing comes of it, but this time I got an email from the local Aramex, telling me they can see I paid customs already and they will ask customs to release my parcel.

Is there some glitch in the system where customs doesn't know all fees have been paid, and then it just sits somewhere on a shelf???? Eish!

Yup, aramex imports are not efficient, haven't been for a while - they do "forget" to send through the electronic notification and the necessary documents to customs, so your parcel just sits in their warehouse at the airport.

Still 10000x better than SAPO.

I have had 3 parcels shipped with Aramex, all of which have had huge problems, which takes a emails and fighting to resolve.

Many people give great reviews on this company: postbox-courier.com

Let's vote with our money. The more people that know that there is an alternative to Aramex, the better. I think the only thing that will make them react is loosing customers

I've just been told that the Aramex MD's name is ...

As Dee and others in this thread have pointed out on multiple occasions, Aramex is one of the cheapest options available and you get what you pay for. I really don't think it's an appropriate response to dox the MD in this thread.

Aramex is cheaper. However, that does not excuse incompetence and their indifference to customers. "You get what you pay for" should never be an excuse when you get under par service, especially from a company which constantly advertises good service.

For example, I have found out that my parcel was rejected by customs because Aramex didn't put the cost and the currency on the documentation. They have the currency and cost on the internet tracking site, and every other time they have been able to record the details. However, for some reason, this did not happen this time. They do not inform you that there is a problem with your package. You have to spend literally hours trying to get hold of someone who assist you when you see that nothing is changing on the tracking site.

This is not acceptable.

They are a global company that advertises great service and promise customer satisfaction. I can personally testify to this, as I have been on hold for about 15 minutes listening to a recorded message telling me this.

When you have a supplier who is almost impossible to get a response from (this is from numerous people), you get to the point where you need to find someone who is senior enough to do something. I posted the number really hoping that it will help someone else who is stuck in the same quandary as I am in.

The simple solution is to hand feed the overworked clearance agent.
When you upload your invoice make sure the pdf description says what it is and the currency.
i.e: 1 x Hot wheels die-cast car $94.95 - US DOLLARS.
I import over 50 parcels a month and usually add a watermark to my invoice screen grab that says price in Chinese Yuan Renmimbi or US Dollars.
I use a program called Techsmith Snagit to do a screengrab, watermark it and save as a .pdf, which Aramex prefers.

I'm having trouble ordering from Amazon UK via Aramex global. My account was suspended because of "unusual activity" according to Amazon. Could that be because I'm using a South African credit card and address with the UK shipping address?

Anyone had similar experiences?

My only experience with amazon UK was on an item that did ship to SA via amazon's own expidited shipping. I assume the item you bought did not ship to SA?

Hi , Has anyone sent any medicine from the UK to SA - I phoned DHL for a quote and they said I need to contact the Medical Control Council. What started as a quick search has now become a berueacratical nightmare :p. Any advice on who to contact?

The impending nightmare dealing with customs after the long application process for authorisation from the MCC is hardly going to be worth the effort.

So basically its not worth it and just to smuggle it? Its just a biological drug an epipen? That is crazy. It is so stupid I bet you there is no logic behind this ruling.

There is a good reason you need to get medical approval for it.

1. Its to ensure you dont bring unknown drugs into the country
2. Make sure you dont mess yourself up

I remember when I brought in some drugs. Had to go to a doctor to sign of paperwork that he will monitor me for minimum of 6 weeks while taking the drugs. Then once you have that, you can get the documentation needed for customs. It is a whole process, all depends on how badly you want said drugs.

I take them for life. They both used in the UK and SA for the exact same thing. There is no logic , physically why I cannot bring them in, It is only either a redundant rule or someone , somewhere is profiting off this embargo. It is also produced by one company for worldwide use - no other us used due to patents an intellectual property laws. There is not even a different brand for the different markets. Soooo dumb.

Update. So after last weeks ticket nothing happened, parcel still stuck in JHB. Yesterday I contacted Aramex again and got a reply with 3 employees CC'd where whoever is in charge (I guess) tells them to sort out the stuck parcel. It is now another day later and still nothing.

How some parcels clear in one day and other still "under processing" for WEEKS after paying customs is blowing my mind.
