Hi everyone.

Has anyone dealt with returns and AGS? I am wondering if I'll have to pay import duties for replacements. That would suck :D

If I don't make sense, I bought Plantronics earphones, they were faulty, so I shipped them back with the good 'ol SAPO. Plantronics then shipped replacements to my AGS address in NY. I suspect I'll have to pay import duties when they arrive here, but it would be nice if I could get around that - it was R500 the last time :crying:
When you receive notification that NY Origin have received the parcel, submit a customer care request explaining that these are replacements and you did not pay a cent.
Get a live person to email you so you can send him all the invoices etc.

Does anyone know if I can get speakers shipped with AGS. The loose driver, not in a cabinet or device. I'll probably order it from USA, UK or AUS.

From the Unacceptable items list it looks like magnetized items are a problem coming from China. And then further down in the document under Miscellaneous it mentions "Magnetized material". It doesn't specifically mention speakers...

you can order strong magnets from Banggood, so I doubt there is a problem?

Just a bit of a report back on trying to get around paying import duties for a replacement item - it's on the rocks, but I think if you do things carefully, it's possible.

I had used SAPO to ship the item back to the states, and the replacement is coming via Aramex. I contacted Aramex when the mail came through for me to submit all the details for the package and was informed that I just need to send them all the supporting documents.

They apparently need "export documents" from SAPO to back up my claim that I sent the original item back. All I have is the slip with the tracking number that I got from them when sending it. That isn't good enough. I went to a branch and asked for help, they directed me to a tracking site and said it would be sufficient. I was also given a number to call for help if I got stuck. I called said number twice today and managed to get through to someone eventually, and got the same speech - they can tell me where the parcel is (which is BS, because I know it's delivered, but their system says en route) but they can't give me any documents. This didn't go down well with Aramex.

Now, I suspect that I spoke to someone who didn't understand me. Perhaps with enough sweet talk, I could have gotten something. I don't know.

The bottom line is, without these supporting documents, duties are heading my way. I have now accepted that I will be paying a couple of hundred in school fees. It saddens me, but such is life. The last glimmer of hope is the Aramex lady is going higher up to see what she can do, but I don't think she'll be able to do much.

I only used SAPO because I have used them before for international shipping, and the costs are reasonable. If there is a next time, and I expect to get a replacement item, I will try figure out a way to use something more reputable, that can provide these documents if need be.

Don't be like me LOL.

Hi guys.

First time AGS shopper here.

So I bought a laptop on amazon and had it shipped to my AGS address. It arrived today at my new york address. How long does it take for the shipment to show up in my AGS account?

It's only been about 3 hours, but I'm getting a bit nervous because the delivery note says that it was 'left at the dock' which kinda sounds like they just dropped it off and drove away.

yeah, you in for a world of pain........but they get thousands of deliveries, so no worries about the left at dock part.

How long before they log it, probably a few days of wondering from your side....but heck, enough about the NY depot has been said in this thread and with black Friday shopping............

A few days to log in, then a few days until they confirm you uploaded the invoice and then a few days until they ship and then a few days until it arrives and then lets not start on the clearing - you wish by then its a few days and when its cleared then a few days until they deliver......but surely you read this thread before you used them and know what to expect?

It's 189 pages long.
Lived666 does not like Aramex much.
I use the NY Origin all the time and most times the shipment pops up the next day.
In three years I have only had one parcel delivered where it was tampered with and it probably was not NY Origin's fault. As it is, Aramex insurance covered it.
I am looking at the Shop & Ship app, which I far prefer over any other method of tracking shipments. I currently have 19 active shipments (as in shipments between an Origin and Linbro Park - Aramex Johannesburg).

You should. However, take a deep breath and don't stress out if you don't.
It's Christmas. Volume is high.
Aramex Express items always take priority. If NY is swamped with priority items your shipment will be ignored for a while. It will not be forgotten.
If, however, you have not seen it pop up after 3 days then contact Johannesburg. It might mean that the shipper has not added your account number to the address.

For people having to return things - Use Aramex Express. I recently sent a PC Board to Miami and it cost R377. It also helps as AGS can ask AE for supporting documents.
Ignore "how to you want to pay?" - the shipping rate calculator will still work.
You can organise everything by emailing Rachel Madima Rachel@aramex.com and she will direct you to the Aramex payment portal where you can use your debit / credit card.

Pfft nobody here really likes Aramex that much, not even you. It is used because SAPO is nonfunctioning and they are a low cost, albeit quite a crappy service, that sort of does work

Re Aramex, heck, somebody shipped me something and they delivered to me unexpectedly ahead of schedule this recent Saturday of all days - buy yeah, they still crappy as hell

I am happy with AGS. Works great, in fact I prefer to use AGS over other shipping options on most international shops that do ship to SA. The whole process is streamlined through their website or app and I dont have to wait for a random phonecall to let me know I need to pay customs or what not.

They may not be next day door delivery shipping, but they are not that slow that you need to complain. If you want that, feel free to go pay a premium for that. Not sure why you complaining in this thread.

So I got an email at 6am today saying that the shipment has been received. Sent them my invoice now. So it doesn't take a few days at all.

Just a question about the grand total of the item though. I was charged US tax since it was shipped to an American address. Do I include this in the total amount that I submit to aramex, or do I just submit the amount of the item without US tax? Seems unfair for our customs guys to use the American tax amount to work out how much VAT to charge me here.

Isn't it cheaper if they ship directly to SA because you don't get charged US tax for having it shipped to New York first?

Good for you. Less stress now.
Now the wait. My last order from NY was received on 8th November and delivered on the 22nd November.

Depends on many things. Most of the time for me the AGS shipping is cheaper than the shop's method of shipping, because its usually free shipping within the US.
Some shops (like Amazon) allow you to claim the US tax back after providing documents showing you shipped with a forward shipper like AGS.
