Aramex global shopper

I'm presuming they were normal AA batteries? There's no issue shipping those, Li-Po batteries won't be shipped ie: cellphone and laptop batteries. They can't be put on passenger aircraft anymore and have to go on dedicated cargo planes.

True, they were't laptop batteries, but they still would have been shipped with caution.
I have been looking at the rules on what AGS allows to be shipped and what they do not ship, and there is no mention of modern laptops being prohibited:

Unfortunately my shipment of Uranium 235 will have to be cancelled. :D

Yes, and further down "Used Laptops manufactured before 2008 (not allowed in Egypt)". There is no mention of modern laptops being prohibited.
But we can argue this until the cows come home. Best thing is for Slamz to contact Aramex direct and ask.

I think they guess the weight of the items. Or their scales are out. Had a look at the history of some of my parcels. All were under 500g but there is one they said was 0.08kg and it was definitely not that light.

Something interesting happened. 5 small parcels arrived within a day or two of each other at the US depot and the total charge for shipping is R373. Plus I get the R75 FNB discount.

But something seems to be broken on the payment page. It had an error when I tried to pay and I received an SMS from my bank, but my shipments are still pending payment. Emailing helpdesk, again.

I see on the Aramex FAQ that if you import more than 3 times a year then you need an importers code. Has anybody done this? Not sure on how to fill in the form, I'm not a business owner and the items are for personal use and so far all under R500.

Interesting....thats news to me. I have imported over 20 things this year via SAPO alone. Only 2 times thus far with AGS.

But looking at those forms, it seems simple enough to fill in.

Went through the pain of applying for this just yesterday. Figured I get one just in case they come asking. The required documents on the application are not the only ones. Over and above those you will need,

- A Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) from SARS
- A Telkom/ Cellphone statement. Printed my Vodacom statement but got sent on my way to go get an affidavit stating that it is an electronic statement.
- A resolution letter of what you are applying for.

Oh yes and wherever it says you don't need to fill in this block if you filled it in at another block, still go ahead and refill it in.

Goodluck

Whenever a package arrives at customs and they require a commercial invoice as there wasn't one attached to the parcel, do suppliers give this to you upon request happily or you have to ask and ask again and perhaps find alternatives? If so what are the options? What is you general experience in this regard?

Most suppliers will give you an invoice if you ask them and they didn't include one in the package.
Sometimes they don't include an invoice because it is not necessary if shipped to the same city or within the same country.
But they don't always know you want to actually export the parcel to another country where it is a must to have an invoice.

I'm going to try Cape Mail later today.

To think an Australian family of 4 can import around R50000 a year tax free and most foreign shops in China or the US make DHL deliveries for only $5.
We have it really bad with all the expensive shipping costs and high taxes.

What happens to the ones that don't want to send you one?

True, I usually ask that an Invoice be stuck to the outside of the parcel. If it's UK to Slough they are usually confused until you say it's going to be immedlaty sent abroad.

I hear you. A lot of sites don't allow for additional comments on placing an order and they don't check their emails in time to include it if you do send an email straight after placing an order.

If you bought with Paypal, you might upload your Paypal invoice, don't know if they will accept that?
Almost all online sites allow you to download an electronic invoice.
Or just don't buy from sites that don't allow comments.
You will just need to email them and wait until you get an invoice, otherwise after a certain time AGS or any other courier will dispose off your parcel(after 30 days?) or send it back to the sender and you have to pay an extra fee for that.

Just upload the invoice on the site? That's what I always do and it's never been an issue, just upload proof of payment as well either from paypal or your bank.

Email them and ask for them to send you an invoice. If family, you are allowed two gifts a year for a paltry amount, so say it was your sister that sent that fancy iPhone and throw yourself at their mercy. Sometimes (rarely) you can get a sympathetic ear and a small duty fee.

I can tell you from experience that Fitbit have no clue what an invoice is. As bizarre as that statement sounds, I've requested invoices (for Aramex) from Fitbit on two seperate occasions, escalated my queries both times and got absolutely nowhere. Supervisors will profusely apologise to you after the fact, telling you they understand how unacceptable this is, but will still not be capable of producing said document. (Fibit rant over)

To contribute, I ended up attaching order confirmations to my Aramex orders. Aramex complained about this the first time but still got it cleared. They didn't even mention it on the second occasion and it cleared even faster the second time around.
