Aramex global shopper

Yeah but postbox courier wanted R600 for the same parcel that aramex charged me R120 for. No thanks I'll wait

this last shipment wasnt with pbc small items are cheaper with ags, larger items or if you have a few parcels to consolidate or need something fast then postbox courier is better, but definitely use ags for small parcels or if time isnt that important, ags do have cheapest rates on low weight parcels

Lol, agreed. As long as we know how things work. No movement for 3 days? Phone them. Keep on them, but without harassment as they also work for a salary and don't deserve that. As you get to know them, so your parcel will move faster.

I uploaded my invoice last Monday and waited a week and nothing happened to my package. Dropped them an email on Tuesday and then got a response and it was sent that night and arrived in JHB on Wednesday at customs. Aramex handed it over immediately to my clearing agent and it was cleared in 3 hours and sent to Linbro Park for despatch.

Bit of a delay there while they debited my CC card and sent it to the vc cage for despatch to CT. Then some more waiting while they check payment and that everything is finalised. Friday overnight it was sent to Cape Town. Delivery either Saturday or Monday.

That's the normal procedure for me once it's in the country. JHB for 2 days then Cape Town the next day. Having a clearing agent saves a few days. You're welcome to use mine. PM if you want info.

Can you explain how the clearing agent works? Isn't Aramex supposed to do this?

It will add to the cost using a separate clearing agent and as most people use AGS for their low price budget service, it would be pointless using someone else for the clearing.

So now parcel # 2 has joined parcel #1 at AGS in New York. I again immediately uploaded the invoice.
Hopefully they figure out where they're going and dispatch them on Monday, but I won't hold my breath.

Loc. Shipment NO. Supplier Status Commodity Received
US 9301698851 Jose Avila Need Invoice Electronics 01/21/17
US 9301299980 Glk Cellular Need Invoice Phones/Mobile 01/17/17

Hmm, if the shipment numbers allocated to each parcel are in sequence, then it means that they processed 398,871 parcels between the 17th and the 21st January.

I have a parcel en-route to my Aramex UK account, but it needs a signature for delivery. Will there be somebody to receive it?

My parcel has been stuck in NY for one week now. I have just received a 3rd email asking to me to upload invoice.
Irritated, I phoned AGS (for the 2nd time) and asked; "What gives?"
Man was very pleasant, and confirmed that the parcel is still in NY.
Apparently JHB "trip" New York (or wherever) when they notice that a parcel destined for South Africa is stuck in the system.
This does two things. It notifies New York to move the parcel...and it sends out an automated email to the recipient asking them to upload invoice. Irritating as hell, but it does mean that if you get the "Upload Invoice" email again, JHB is on your case.
A week is the longest I have ever had a parcel stuck anywhere, and I get parcels in from AGS on average 4x a month.

FWIW: I gave the Aramex executives some more feedback and they are aware of this thread and acknowledge that they are aware of issues and are resolving them. By the sounds of it there are many dependencies but at least the company has show interest and intention to resolve the problems and SLAs.

Bizarre that the supporting IT systems and the surrounding processes are not very optimised - this is something I would focus on first when it comes to logistics as "time = money". Out of 10 parcels, the fastest I received in 6 business days (ordered on a Thursday and received the following Friday). Other parcels arrive within 9-14 business days and most delays are due to parcels being stuck overseas or locally. The actual flight/transport is super fast.

I had a parcel delivered there at around noon today, how long do they take to upload it to the "my parcels" bin on the website?

1 Day to 3-4 weeks.

Just phoned them and they seem to have some big issue with overseas depot. Two invoices uploaded within the hour two days ago and still not updated. One parcel is held in customs, due to missing ID-number (despite ID-number loaded on their profile). If I find the time next week, I will see if I can meet with him up here in Jozi.

Good luck, I corresponded and spoke with Mark often over a period of around 3 years - though I have since given up with AGS and moved over to reliable forwarders. All their issues are solvable, maybe you will get somewhere...hope you do, there is a supplier in Canada I dropped because it was just not worth the grief - though Canada AGS move fast, its the local guys that keep ****ing up.

While he might not be able to resolve all problems, it should be relatively easy to sort out the Jozi problems. In an email from him yesterday he acknowledged the issues I highlighted in my blog post and that they are actively attempting to resolve issues. My reading is that the local labour force contributes much to the problem.

Can someone confirm the following: None of the emails or tickets I submitted have ever resulted in an email response (other than the assigning of a reference number). Tickets get closed and on the website there is no history/resolution. Do you guys get email feedback when tickets are attended to? I had a similar case with a supplier where they did not realise that their help-desk system had an outbound email issue and customers never got any help-desk email (but other mails).

I do agree that despite it's complexities, logistics is fairly simple with anticipated processes and exceptions. It just requires the will of workers to actually do the job and have a personal investment in the work they do. Then again, SA is not particularly famous for excellent customer service (compared to EU or US standards).

While PBC provides better service, their IT security is completely dismal (login credentials send in the clear, no SSL, emailing passwords etc) - at least this is something AGS got right ;-)
