I buy from eBay and don't get an invoice with my purchases, so I just make my own and so far everything has gone through without questions. What I want to know is whether I should be putting my local RSA address on it or the Aramex address to where it was shipped to in the UK / US? The items have all been under R500 and so far I haven't needed to pay customs.

You don't make up your own invoice at all, that is illegal.

If you have the eBay app on your phone, make a screenshot of what you have bought, and upload it to Aramex.

If using a computer, here is the harder, but much more thorough, method:

Go to your purchase history. If you cannot snag a section straight from your purchase history (use a snipping tool), click on "More actions" and then click on "View Order Details" or "View PayPal Transaction"
The shipping address seen will be the Aramex address you instructed the seller to dispatch to.

Now you can use your keyboard. Press Control and then, while still holding the control key, you press P (Ctrl/P). This opens up a page you can either print, or save on your computer (just change the destination).

Once you have this invoice saved, you can upload it to Aramex.

This pisses me off. If the item ordered is only $20 and the shipping from California to New York is $19. how come SARS Customs charges me duty on $39? Surely something that occurs outside South Africa is none of their business? I can understand the parcel value and Aramex shipping from New York to SA being their business, but not local postage USA side.

Its not SARS - its aramex incompetent as usual clearance staff - they submit the value to SARS, so someone there sent them the value of $39 instead of $20, take it up with them.

Heh. I would do, but today is a holiday. As it is, the SARS PDF from Customs has been added to my shipping history, but no duty has been added to Shipment Payment Details.
Yet.
I will, of course, send an email to them to read first thing tomorrow. It's just irritating that I have to do this as it delays parcel delivery.

I almost had to use these clowns to ship a parcel from Japan, but a bit of searching and I found the same item in Ireland, dodged a bullet here:erm::D

Same thing happens at SAPO, was under impression SARS would tax everything they can, so if you send them an invoice with the shipping price included, they tax all the things. I usually try to send them an invoice without the US ect shipping part.

I have phoned Olivia, and have now sent her an email asking for clarification. I can understand the parcel value and Aramex shipping from New York to SA being their business, but not local USA postage from Connecticut to NY. I mean, the seller paid the US postal service for shipping to NY, and I paid him back. That's more a revenue thing, with money going out the country.

What?

I had a private buy from Italy a few months ago - buying from a friend. Asked Aramex how to handle it, and they sent me an invoice template to fill out return to them - which I did.

So not entirely sure where you get your info from, because clearly it isn't true.

For private sales they have to rely on your honesty. That is understandable, as the sender is not a business.

However, if you deal with any company such as eBay, Amazon etc, you have to send the actual invoice, or make a screen grab. You can't make up your own.

You also have to make absolutely certain that the seller understands that you are using a courier, and he cannot amend the invoice.

The Chinese are the worst culprits, figuring that they are actually "helping you out". They are not, because if the invoice you submitted to Aramex does not match the invoice in the parcel, SARS customs will immediately fine you a non-appealable amount of R2500.

Take it from me, I was fined this amount when I imported something from China using DHL. The invoice submitted by the seller was $30 USD. The actual invoice I submitted to DHL was over $300. I was heavily fined, even though it was not my fault, and although I fought the fine, it was like fighting a brick wall.

Bottom line is this - be honest, and make darn sure your seller is as well.

I tried the screen grab route last year when shipping a replacement Fitbit to South Africa. It was repeatedly rejected by Aramex. I phoned to try and get it sorted out. I was eventually advised by someone at Aramex over the phone to make my own invoice.

Hi guys. I have an item someone sent to my inbox in their personal capacity. I did not purchase the item from a store. They require an invoice. What should I do?

See few posts back, it's mentioned they'll give you a template invoice to fill in.

So we know that normally if an item is less than R400 it goes through without having to pay customs. However I just had a $60 item, $64 with US shipping, go through, and only paid R120 for the AGS shipping and R0 duties. A first for me at least, but I won't complain.

You are lucky. The guy at AGS I spoke to yesterday hinted that it depended on the day and how the customs officer was feeling.
I think your customs officer had his coffee, wheras mine had none.

Well if that is the case, then I attribute it to the fact that he had a great long weekend :)

Made a huge mistake using Aramex Global Shopper.

29/04/2017 Package failed delivery because they don't accept packages on the weekend
02/05/2017 Package successfully re delivered.

Up to now my package isn't on my profile yet.
Called multiple times and just get told they will contact Hong Kong to find out and then nothing happens.
If I am lucky and they load it on my profile Monday, that will have taken 6 days.

So my current parcel is "Held in Customs - Awaiting Customer Instructions" Any idea what this means and what I must do?

I've emailed Aramex, but they typically take long to respond so I just want to find out from those who have had this before what this is and what to do? Thx

Customs either does not have your ID number (in most of the cases this is the issue - have Aramex preload your ID number on your profile) or there is a customs query (where customs is trying to get hold of you)
