Aramex global shopper

ok so they recently banned batteries on aircrafts (yada, yada, exceptions...)

what implication does that have for travellers?

most people travel with their mobile phones, and many carry either/both tablet and/or laptop.

how would that effect those persons?

Not sure how affects travellers.

What seems to affect is if your ship loose batteries. If the battery is installed like a laptop/ mobile devices, this seems to be fine for shipments. Well that how I read it from MyUS service.

I can understand them banning loose battery shipments. But already installed in a device, is not a problem in my eyes.

Companies like TNT and DHL can still ship 1 product with a built-in battery but not loose ones.
Then the battery also must not be charged more than 30%(don't know how they will check that) and it can only be shipped by cargo planes not commercial airlines which will increase the shipping cost considerably. Also there aren't a lot of cargo planes to South Africa and most shipping is done by commercial airlines, so it's very bad news.
So if you buy a $5 rechargeable flash light or $20 mobile power bank you will have to pay $30-$60 to ship it to South Africa and can't even use free airmail anymore.

People are still allowed to travel with their mobile phones that are on. But loose batteries that aren't powered on on a plane is not allowed to ship.

From Aramex to me when I shipped a phone with them:
"If you can find a shipping company that can ship the batteries, we will arrange that it get collected otherwise we retain the battery to the supply but there is a return charge of $10

Currently most courier companies don’t accept batteries

"As per new regulation we can’t ship any parcel that contain Batteries, it either we remove the battery and ship it without it

I still have 2 lithium-Ion batteries stuck in China and 2 empty phones that was delivered with Aramex.
If anyone knows of a company that can ship them to South Africa please tell me.
I can arrange that it ships with another item/equipment also if they don't allow separate batteries.
Currently TNT can only ship an item with a battery inside but they mention they can ship an extra 2 batteries max with a parcel on their website but all the companies that use TNT say when they tried to ship the parcel and TNT had other answers and didn't allow it.

Packed with equipment (UN 3481 PI 966)
I'm thinking of this but on the right side it says 'commercial airlines' no so I'm not sure.

Ship by sea? In any event I would think most of the goods we import are shipped by sea anyway. It might take a bit longer but at least it will arrive here. It should be cheaper too ;)

But how do you import by sea?
99% of e-commerce sites only offer airmail.
I think it's only the big companies importing containers full of stuff that use shipping by sea.

I dont think you specifically select to ship by sea as the buyer. If for example you buy something on eBay, the seller usually ships according to what you are prepared to pay and what's available. I may be wrong but in most cases shipping via the postal service (which is cheapest) is via sea cargo. Which is why it takes 6-8 weeks to arrive.
So the courier services, being expected to be quick, have no choice but to ship by air.
Of course, if the the seller of the battery doesn't ship to S.A., Aramex Global Is not a solution.

From what I understand nothing you order online is sent via sea cargo, it's all air, unless it's something unusually large or heavy like say a truck engine block.

Have macbook ram coming in from amazon US , been stuck in customs clearance process since 31st March, how long does the process usually take?

Should take 2 days, most likely your package is missing a commercial invoice and can't be cleared.
You need to be proactive and call them.

After phoning 2x numbers got through to Joburg airport department and item is being handed over to courier today i'm told.

No reason given for the delay.

I'm necroing. Don't use them, they lost a package of mine in new york, and the customer service in SA is terrible. I will be using another service from now on.

What was the value, was it insured?

40$ so not really an issue, it was replacement hi performance orings for my paintball marker. But I ordered a roku a few weeks back and they had issues at customs. Even though I had uploaded all documentation well before hand.

Don't even bother with Vusi, he is utterly useless. I'll be using postbox-courier in future, I emailed him and he responded immediately.

Odd, I just had a shipment come in not too long ago and did not need to send in any paperwork, and did not need to pay any duties on the item. Excellent service from AGS from me.

Yes in general I've had good service, but this was my roku's shipment log.

And now a package has just randomly gone missing at the drop off point:

so aramex can go fsck themselves.

You have to remember it can take 1-2 days to update the status in your Aramex account.
If a parcel is delivered at night to the US address, it will only show the next morning in the US address and you also have to factor in the different time zones between South Africa and the US.

Customs problems happen with every courier, sometimes it goes smooth, sometimes there are delays, it's SARS and customs fault that they are so inefficient in South Africa.

It was delivered at 11am. Aramex already gave me that excuse. All my previous packages reflected the same day.
