Aramex global shopper

Things have no doubt been slower the last few weeks. More so here at Johannesburg. Between Aramex and Customs, they took 2 weeks to send me a duties invoice for a parcel sent from ViaBox. Then my AGS stuff too has taken 2 weeks to get a duties invoice.

@DeeinSouthAfrica By the way, would uploading your own invoice before the parcel leaves for SA work as a method to avoid your challenge? Perhaps that way Aramex would use your uploaded copy vs the suppliers one?

Yeah, upload your invoice beforehand, problem is AGS is sometime full of crap when you send them what you have. I had to ask the eBay seller to send me he's for a proper invoice. That wasted almost I week and now it's sitting in jhb.

Any parcel without any duties or tax will take anything from 5-7 days.

I have not imported bluetooth speaker, so can't vouch for that, BUT, I have imported a robot with a built-in rechargeable battery. They said absolutely nothing about it. It was shipped via the UK depot. It has cleared customs yesterday late, so I might have it by tomorrow, but its already in SA so pretty sure they were fine with it from the UK to JHB.

I have also, shipped 2 fitness watches from the US depot to SA just fine, their batteries weren't removed at all either. That was in the last 3 months for both, again no issues with them either. The last watch was a week ago. Both watches bought from eBay for their superior pricing.

Thanks for that Tinuva.
I do anticipate no problem with either Bluetooth speaker, also both bought on eBay. I just wondered if anyone has experience in importing them as I can find nothing on the Internet at all. I know know that some couriers say nothing with any battery can be imported, but thats written into their rules of prohibited items. AGS have nothing in their rules of prohibited items at all, which makes me think i'll be ok .

Both Bluetooth speakers arrived today. This does prove that AGS do transport items with in-built batteries.
Just never try and import them using Aramex, Fedex or DHL as those mainstream couriers most definitely do not.

But I thought batteries inside a device is fine, but loose not?

Yes, but only for Aramex Global Shopper. Only them, no other courier.
As it is, my two Bluetooth speakers were thoroughly checked out in New York - there was Shop and Ship packing tape on 70% of both parcels. More tape than box. Was a right bastard unpacking it. Finally found a good knife and major new swear words.

Hmm good to know, Vusi still insists no batteries will be shipped though... I've just got the dreaded:

Your package XXXXX weighting 2.4lb is currently on hold at Customs in South Africa as it is missing the required merchant’s commercial invoice.

Ugh

This is an old article, but I think it is still valid:
http://248am.com/mark/shopping/how-to-get-a-tax-refund-from-amazon-aramex-shop-ship-users/

More info from just asking Google:
How do I remove tax exemption from Amazon?
Simply select “Remove Tax Exemption” next to the specific item. You are able to request a refund of the sales tax for items fulfilled by Amazon at the line item level in your order by emailing [email protected]. Orders fulfilled by sellers or third parties will require you to provide a exemption certificate.

I finally managed to get the airwaybill from AGS. Had to open a second request on the package explaining in detail why I need the airway bill, just requesting it in the first they just closed it, almost ignored it.

Just want to say, I was able to request this back from amazon.co.uk using the airwaybill, on [email protected]
Pretty damn awesome I must say, considering SA Customs only charged VAT on the item.

Sending my first item from the US!
Scantool.net priority USPS mail to the NY office took two days. Just uploaded the invoice.

Strange that AGS says its 0.6lbs whereas Scantool's packing list says 0.44 lbs... Not a problem now, but could be in future.

Has anyone experienced error's in shipping weight that caused an extra charge?

Congratulations! I find that things go faster when the uploaded invoice says INVOICE. If it is called Tom's Gift (or something stupid like that) it just delays things.
I have a parcel in NY now and one en route there from Canada. I could have chosen the AGS Canada address to send it to, but I think NY will be faster.
Weight wise I have not had a problem. They are usually accurate.

You have to add in a bit for packaging etc, their weights are usually accurate.

Interesting that you went through NY.

Yes, called it Invoice---.pdf
I sent the invoice earlier this morning after my first post. But strangely, they just resent the email notification asking for the invoice again...sigh

That's definitely a possibility. If the packaging slip with the USPS tracking number says that Carton 1 is 0.44lbs (and shipment total is also 0.44lbs), then surely it should be the same?

They have been doing this to me each time as well. New algorithms added to the email server perhaps?

They should. Ask Vusi to get someone to weigh it again.

Will ask....But who is Vusi? :o

[email protected]

They can get the weight very wrong. Vusi owed me a klomp credit once for two identical parcels where one weighed in at twice as much as the other. Their mistake, which they rectified immediately.
You just have to be on your toes, they are only human and are twice as busy as usual in Dec.
