Just wanna know if we can buy alcohol with this? (private use not for resale).

Alcohol is flammable. In a controlled pressurised environment it is okay. In a cargo hold it can bring down an aeroplane.
All airlines that carry passengers will only allow 100 ml of fluids of any kind on board.
Airlines that are Cargo and have unpressurised holds won't even allow that.
This prompts courier companies to issue an unacceptable materials list, and Aramex Global Shopper is no different. You will find this list under HELP on the main page.
It is worth reading, as it tells you precisely what items would be confiscated or destroyed or returned to seller should you happen to order them.

No. Each person can pack litres of alcohol in their suitcase. The only reason it is prohibited on board is because of the potential of terrorism and liquid I.E.Ds

Millions of tons of alcohol get flown all across the globe each year.

Buying alcohol online is no problem at all. Just be sure to check how much each person can buy at one time.

Side note, all modern aircraft holds are pressurised.

I must say, I'm suitably impressed with AGS on this run..

I ordered stuff from the UK on the 13th, it was delivered on the 15th to AGS in London, and is on the vehicle to be delivered to me today...

Actually, you are correct. My source was not referring to checked luggage, and I misunderstood her.
As to pressurised holds... well damn, the doggies and kitties on my flight would be toast!
However, when it comes to Aramex Global Shopper, it is another story.
They have alcohol listed as flammable liquids, and should you attempt to import that lovely bottle of whatever it will be stopped.
Having said that, the Internet says alcoholic beverages of less than 24% alcohol content is not subject to hazardous materials regulation, so you can try sweet-talking Aramex Johannesburg, but, well, good luck to that.
 
Some things on this prohibited items list are surprising to me.
You see a painting advertised and want to import it? Ask first, because if it is deemed a collectable item or an antique it will be stopped. Same goes for any sculpture.
I only this morning paid for a microwave glass tray on Ebay UK. If someone in Slough deems it to be glassware I am in trouble.
Having said this, I have successfully imported three microwave plates through Shanghai, so we will have to wait and see.
Jewellery is banned, as is perfume. Sorry, no fancy shopping on Black Friday.
It is worth reading. Even importing a cheap pair of scissors from China is forbidden.
 
One thing that boggels my mind is how Aramex shipments take days to go through customs while while other couriers take hours?

Even cheaper services like Buffalo seems to get this done faster?

It's probably the priority that Ags parcels are given, I'm assuming if their customs section is jam packed all high priority aramex full price shipping items jump the queue in terms of processing. They probably have a way of specifying which is an Ags parcel and which is a normal item. I know with other couriers that have a lower cost Ags type offering those items are for filling the plane on slow times(and hence speedier processing and delivery) and conversely being held back on busy times and slower shipping and processing.
 
Does anyone have any insight to avoid US sales tax while using AGS as its warehouse is in NY? Or maybe a similar forwarder which is as affordable and reliable?

If buying from an individual or company on ebay, I don't think you can reclaim tax as it is going from one place to another inside the USA.
Amazon? Maybe. I haven't bought anything from there in quite a while, but I recall there was mention in this thread way back of an email address you could write to.

Yeah, i'm looking at other forwarders now with hubs in states with no sales tax, even if the shipping is more, it will be less than the sales tax I will need to pay ($350!) and probably arrive quicker as well

MyUS.com provides you with a forwarding address in Florida with it's own tax-free zip code. People on MyBB seem to have good experiences when using them. I used them for the very first time last week. Their shipping is definitely pricier compared to AGS.

You're lucky, been waiting since the 17th for stuff from the UK. No reply to my enquiry yet.
 
I think I understand now why some people on this thread complained about customs. Never seen this before. Quite a drag...for rubber carpets.
