Aramex global shopper

After successful orders before, this time my USA Google Store order was cancelled. I guess they finally cottoned on to the fact that my billing address wasn't in NY.
Or maybe it was this in the terms and conditions.
Oh well, all good things, etcetera.

Hi there, I want to order from Gearbest, but have it delivered to my Amarex Global Shopper address in Shanghai so that it can be shipped to SA from there - assuming all shipments come from China. The problem is that Gearbest only allows for up to 35 characters per address field so I am not able to enter all the information.

In an attempt to shorten the address below:

Address Line1: Unit 1, Building 15, Lane 248 Huqingping Highway Minhang District,Shanghai
Address Line2: CPT XXXX
City: Shanghai
State: Shanghai
Zip Code: 201105

to this below at Gearbest

Address 1: Unit 1, Building 15, Lane 248
Address 2: Huqingping Highway, CPT XXXXX
Country/Region: China
State/Country: Shanghai
City: Shanghai
Zip/Postal Code: 201105

But when I attempt to check out and change the address, I get an "Item warehouse shipping destination is invalid" error.

Has anybody got over this little issue at all? How did you solve it?

Anyone have a landline to contact anyone at AGS? They're not responding to my emails.

They are swamped... Just keep phoning. I'm having problems with them as well. If your issue is to do with a delay in invoicing then ask to speak to Tyrell.

Got an email today, parcel is delayed in customs. That would make it a week's delay.

Use promo code AGSBF18 between Nov 23rd - Dec 14th to get your discount*.

So this Promo code does not work through Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Damn, I thought, as I have about R1490 worth of shipments coming in.
In desperation I tried the AGS app, and ticked all 8 shipments and then entered AGSBF18.
Oh yeah, R157 discount!!
It is only afterwards I read that promo was valid on one shipment only. Screw it, it worked, and I am still majorly p-d off that I had to pay R1261 customs duty on a Chinese order of R950. I finally paid it this morning when it was listed as "abandoned by customer - declined payment."

So like when you declare an item price...
If you don't declare the full amount you will not be fully covered if something happens..

But I've ordered stuff before that was couriered to me from the seller. And they've declared values before like $59 on a $420 sale. Still paid R125 to customs (this was in 2016) and went through DHL.

So I don't know if you see my question. :)

Looks like Customs is only releasing the shipment tomorrow or Thursday which means almost two weeks delay. Normally I wouldn't mind but the parcel is meant as a present which is required by 4th December. AGS is far too lax in dealing with Customs.

Do not, under any circumstances, screw around with customs value. When ordering direct from seller to you via an express courier such as DHL, always insist the seller send you a copy of the invoice that will be included in the parcel. Insist on the full value invoice in parcel.
Many sellers think they are helping you out by sending an "amended" invoice in the parcel.
Problem is this won't match the invoice you innocently gave DHL, and even if it is 100% not your fault, customs will impose a non-negotiable penalty.
I have been caught twice.
In 2016 the invoice in parcel was $30 and I submitted a PayPal invoice for $187.50. I was fined R1297.50.
This was only the customs amount. I had DHL to pay on top of that.
In June this year I was caught again. Seller declared $30 on a shipment of $159. I was fined R1500 by customs and still had to pay the DHL shipping of R831.
I could not appeal. I fought it daily for a month, until customs threatened to move the shipment from DHL to the State Warehouse (aka, black hole).
Finally I paid the penalty.
Now I always insist on seller sending invoice that they will include in parcel, and I don't pay DHL a cent for an incoming shipment until I see the clearance documents. If I pay I will validate that the information on the SAD 500 document is correct, and I will rather carefully check documents first then pay, just in case something is very wrong.

Aramex Global Shopper is different. As the shipment is going to an Aramex Origin address that is not in South Africa, they have to ensure invoice in parcel is the same as the invoice you uploaded to them. If there is a discrepancy they get fined, not you.

Definitely. For the guys who are considering take a chance, the minimum penalty for under-declaring the value is R1500 or 25% of the under-declared value. Whichever is more - plus VAT on the value of the goods. I have been nailed with a ±R5800 fine. Very painful...

The latest email from Aramex Global Shopper :
"It has come to our attention that multiple shipments, under different waybills but received on the same date, import manifest and flight, are combined by SARS for the purpose of assessing the total value of importation into South Africa."
Damn customs, stopping and adding duty to multiple small black Friday orders that Aramex helpfully combines.

I think ever since they've been opening almost every package I've received in the last 3 years.
That will be Aramex checking that the contents match your uploaded invoice. Your parcel is resealed with Aramex packing tape.
Its the parcel resealed with standard clear or brown packing tape you have to watch. Last parcel received like that had its contents missing. I claimed and Aramex paid out.
