Are Powerline adapters good?

I am thinking that the actual speed of the AV1200 is going to be a bit higher .. based on CuppaJoe's image above, he is getting over 100mbps which is awesome, but would be interested in what the actual speed of the AV500 is in comparison.
Copying with rsync I can maintain 7.8MiB/s (65Mbps) using AV500s (TL-PA4010 units).
 
I came across this technology in the last 2 weeks or so while doing research to upgrade my network at home.
I read through this entire thred and would just like to confirm, with a single phase installation, will these devices still work between 2 plug sockets which is not on the same CB?

Secondly, I would like to use 2 of these between one part of the house and another part which was added on a few years later. The newer part of the house has its own seprit DB(let's call this DB2), but the old DB(let's call this DB1), and DB2 are connected to each other. In other words, DB1 has a CB on it which trips DB2. So if I plug one adaptor in to a wall socket which is on DB1 and another in to a wall socket which is on DB2, will it work?
 
I have one being fed from the router in the lounge to another one in the granny flat which is off a sub db board and works fine.
 
We have two DB boards with independent EL units in separate buildings fed from a common meter (single phase) and the units don't work between the two.

Are your 2 DB's connected in any way, does the main one have a CB which trips the sub, or does the main ones EL also trip the sub?

No, they are separate DBs and trip independently but share a common feed from a single municipal meter.

These powerline units use plc which is the same communocation as prepaid electricity meters i have seen the prepaid meters being interfered with by some of the floresent light bulbs that are partly faulty and some switch mode powersupplies also the surge protected multi adaptors filter out "noise" this "noise" is the data communication so watch out for thease things when fault finding thease powerline units.

Interesting. I always just assumed they used mobile data.
 
This is a bit technical but there are multiple versions of HomePlug (it is a standard).

Homeplug AV2 does support multiple phases. I have a set of these: http://www.takealot.com/tp-link-av1200-3-port-gigabit-powerline-adapter-kit/PLID38533225

Although I don't typically run it on different phases I have verified it works.

Homeplug AV2 uses the neutral, phase and ground conductors. So you should actually have all 3 connected for optimal performance.

Since 3 phase shares a neutral and ground conductor, it is should be obvious that decent speeds are still very possible across multiple phases.

When I used the version above I rewired it to work with a normal SA plug so that all 3 conductors are connected correctly.

For Homeplug AV2 polarity is not sensitive. Upon startup it will determine which conductors are suitable.

It is worth mentioning that they recommend plugging devices AFTER the Homeplug (so plug it INTO the Homeplug). Especially high noise devices like Plasma TVs. They reduce the noise on the line with some smart circuitry.

Ellies surge plugs make these things not work. This I have confirmed.

Other than that, these things work incredible well. I'm actually getting around 400mbps with the TPLink that I linked above due to all 3 conductors being connected.

Well worth it, performance is much, much better than wireless!
 
they work. I was sceptical too at first.

got little tenda ones to test. works like da bomb.

even plugged them into the last plug on a fully used 14 plug multi-plug adapter on both ends of the powerline network. no lag no packet loss no rubber-banding no buffering.. just works. I must say I have tried this on different multi-plugs not all of them work.
 
My wireless performance was erratic at best, got two of these babies and now my network is flying. Really the best thing you can do for home networking. Wireless is okay, but when it comes to stability and performance, these work amazingly well. I initially saw them ages ago @ 10mbps, they're running at 500mbps now and some even include a wireless range extender if you're still hardup on having wireless.
 
From what I gather the utility measures the link speed and not the actual transfer speed. Sometimes the link speed is half of actual speed.

I'm going to order my routers and run a test over the holidays with them and without them attached to the powerline. I'll have to do some sort of copy test.

Are you able to provide more detail as to what exactly you did? Did you wire up an EU socket into which you plugged the adapter(s)?
 
Continuing this thred, all of you seam to primarily use the powerline adapter wired connections, but nobody is commenting on its wifi performance. Any feedback on its wifi performance?
