I don't know why anyone who owns a TV or sound system with a remote would be watching adverts anyway.

I might suggest that we single out one advertiser that has a loud advert.
One we have one - we get a petition saying we will boycott there product until they stop this loud advertising nonsense.
If they say its not us its DSTV or MChoice then we just say - ok you need to sort it out with them, we complained for years now and proceed with the boycott.

But this gets really bad.... as you'll be watching your movie atc, and then as the add comes on, its blasts out loudly, making me almost jump through the window..... surely there must be something that they can do to regulate this, or is it just that this is something that will remain a standard, so as to get the attention of the viewer or the surrounding people???

Doubt if this will ever change

My grandfather used to work at the sabc in the days when they still used those glass tubes in the transmission equipment. Even then they had to adjust the advertisements to be louder than the actual shows.

glass tubes?

you right on the not caring part. i was pondering running the whole dstv through my multimedia pc, on it there should be volume regulator. you set it and if stuff to loud it makes quieter etc
One just needs to read my signature about the caring part. These Corporates are unto a league of themselves, hiding behind their Corporate identities, all within the Boardroom and creating shareholder value. We don't feature in their train of thought, unless it they need to take more money off our account every month.

However that being said there is a thing called "service" and no Corporate's impenetrable skin should be impervious to it.
Nobody likes the loud adverts, they know about the problem, so why don't they fix it, end of story.

Would you go back to a shopping centre where they played the volume so loud that it irritated you, no of course not, you would challenge the Manager about it and he would attend to the matter that day and if not you would shop elsewhere. So why is Multichoice any different. The difference is Competition, there are thousands of shopping centres where we can take our business, but only one pay TV Company called Multichoice, or rather should I say Monochoice.

A bit blunt, but then I am also sick and tired of wearing out the volume button on my remote.

Anyways - it is all pretty academic. If one looks at DSTVs dominant advertiser (sole advertiser?), who is it? DSTV themselves.
When last have you seen an OMO or Bokomo advertisement on DSTV?
That ship has sailed a long time ago.

Oh the have to "monitor" the channels first - so they don't watch their own crappy services - coz if they did they would know it was too loud.....or am I expecting too much?

btw we don't watch oversees ads - oversees channel promo etc - yes - none of their precious ads

Adverts, the number 1 reason why I gave up watching DSTV.

That being said one wonders why we pay R500 a month.

In a country like SA it is useless trying to get through to these behemoths. Telkom is another prime example of Company that does not care about its customers and takes them for granted, they are so predictable.

Free Remotes

Maybe we should all try to prove that MONOCHOICE is actually responsible for the short lifespan of the remotes.

Lets take some action.

We need 100 professional registered complaints to icasa to get them to intervene.

Maybe Multichoice is missing the obvious solution: Adjust their volume to the same levels as advertisements, thus we can reduce the volume, and it will stay the same.

Phone their support line, talk really softly. Then suddenly talk really loudly, then softly again.

Try to convince them that the problem must be on their side, you kept talking at the same volume...

It's not only DSTV - I find it difficult to listen to Classic FM, because if I turn the volume up enough to hear the quiet parts of the music, i get my ears blasted by the DJ or the adverts.

I find it very annoying and them saying it's an Industry standard is a bit of a cheek, noticed the loudest culprits are the BBC and Sony. I'm sure somewhere along the line the government is to blame :)
