I wish someone would explain the rationale of DSTV advertising on DSTV... I've already got it you stupid F@CKNUTS!!!

Not everyone watching does.
Main reason they do that is as a filler.
EG: If the TV show is 42 min long, and they need to fill 18 min with something. If they don't have paid for advertising, they advertise dstv crap.

As I said before I believe it's more than just a filler. If they wanted filler they could just show the logo with some cheesey music in the background, but they make a point of telling you how much better your life is with them etc. Thats advertising (propaganda imo ).

How does one purchase a TV / overhead projector / etc without a license, if you use it only for DVD's / downloaded movies?

And what do you tell the TV license people who know on the door and insist taking you to court because you have a TV and refuse to pay a license?

Unfortunately, you need the license to own the TV receiver equipment, regardless of whether you use it as a receiver or not. Historically, we used to have to have a license to own a radio receiver.
