Army 'needs more white people'

A culmination of factors, simple patriotism and the appeal of a regular wage being two prominent reasons, meant that Lord Kitchener's volunteer campaign spearheaded by his famous call to arms poster 'Your Country Needs You', encouraged over 1 million men to enlist by January 1915. However, the voluntary system soon proved insufficient as the war continued and the casualties increased. After attempts by both Lord Derby and Asquith to encourage men to step up, the cabinet could see no alternative - compulsory active service was the only way to win the war.
Called to active service....

No way I could guarantee my loyalty to Mbeki and Co.

Good chance I would side with the enemy if war broke out considering our comrades are Iran, China, Libya, etc.

@alan85

I get your point. :)
Need to get my facts right. :p

As your attachments suggest, in WWI there was an enormous amount of pride amongst the men/people to fight for their country. I don't see it here and I doubt we would see that enthusiasm in this country for people to join the Army.
A different era of people and circumstances and there is no War and heaven forbid we do have one.

Yeah it's astonishing throughout the war there were Brits signing up. Our ancestors were really built of stern stuff

Agreed. Will never side with the Terrorists (Iran, China, Libya etc.)

*sigh*

Fight for Zuma:sick:

I have a deranged fan

Seriously trek this is sad even by your standards :o

Oh dear one of those liberal PC plods (your term :D) is being really sad! Not really surprising that they have dropped to such a low level :o

They have got it all wrong. If they want good maths and physics results they should be recruiting asians.

Besides, since when does it take a mathematician to kill and rape villagers :D

Have you seen the army lately? I have. Its allblack and I am not talking about the Kiwis here.;) So it makes obvious sense that they will ask for white people to bring the balance back.

The army is a great solution for hoardes of people who wouldn't be able to make an honest living elsewhere, so I am rather grateful we have one, no matter what colour.

On a personal note I also think that compulsory military service was the best thing for this country. For myself. I did two years and it really did make a man out of me. Discipline and self discipline is a great virtue to have, because later in life it will serve you well in any endeavour you put your mind to.

define what is a 'Man' if you weren't one when you went to the army. Does having an emotion make you weak?

How does the army teach delf dicipline? (I done 2 service years and camps for 3 years.... and I would rather have a prostrate exam done at a sangoma rather than serve again)

Would have liked to do NS - btw when I turned 18 it was made voluntary.

For the life experience..

Yeah I also hated it at the time. But later in life I realized how slack the people have become.

Before army I did everything at about 80% with a feeling of apology. After army I did everything deliberately with a feeling of proud completion. To me that was feeling more like a man than feeling like an apologetic teenager. BTW I was 17 when I went. So maybe some of that growing up was nartural too.

Discipline: First you listen to your corporal and Leut because you have to. Later in life you listen to yourself because you know you have to.

Later in life.
Being on time. Waking up and getting out of bed tomorrow at a given time because you set your mind to it, running that extra Km, getting the job done with a do or die attitude. Facing up to your disasters in the face of ridicule because you know there is no way around it. Being true to yourself regardless of the opinions of others. All these things take discipline in the beginning.

Discipline is a wonderful tool for you to prove yourself to yourself. It sets you up to be the commander of your body and your life. Soon you learn that by doing the things you feared the most, there was nothing to fear in the first place. But it takes discipline to move out of comfort and to challenge that statement.

Discipline does not mean not having emotion. It means being brave enough to have them, acnowledge them and show them in the face of probable ridicule. Also to put them aside for later in a life and death situation.

Can't say I blame people for skipping the army as an employer after the story on News24 this morning read about 2 army nursing sisters who were arrested for treating an injured civillian worker without authorisation.

Two nursing sisters at 1 Military Hospital, Thaba Tshwane, were arrested and dumped in a police van on Friday after they'd put plaster of Paris on the broken hand of an injured civilian worker at the hospital, without being officially authorised to treat her.

It appears to be a terrible misunderstanding or else an excessive response to what is a misdemeanour (if it is an offense at all) but there's no need to arrest someone for this. Calling it fraud is just ridiculous!

After the X-ray showed that the woman's hand should be in a cast, the nurses decided to go ahead, thinking the paperwork could be sorted out later.

I was seriously contemplating signing up for the SANDF pilots programme, my eyes are 20-20, my math & science = got me through an engineering degree, my build & everything was fine. But apparently my skin pigmentation throws all of that in the bin.

There is no more pride, no more self discipline, no more patriotism (lack of patriotism - for which I cannot and will not blame anyone)

Spending 2.7yrs in ysterplaat in those vigskriklike aidstekende conditions just didn't seem worth it. I'll be focusing on getting my PPL instead.

The toys built by the mathematicians and scientists clear the path so the savages can get to the village.

One of my cousins was a Brigadier in the real army, earning a meager soldier's stipend. He left when it became a zoo and they now hire him on his terms as an expert military consultant, because they're too goddamn stupid to do anything themselves. Today he's a multi-millionaire. LMAO at the stinky fingers.
