Most residents in Gauteng dont even own a car, I doubt e-toll means anything to them. Gauteng is very safe in ANC hands.
 
5-15c/km. You should also get frequent usage discounts. Ie if your bill is R100/month you get R15 off. Whole thing is a massive cock up.

Again, Pooky, this co-incided with WC preparations and infrastructure upgrades and the people even remotely questioning things were shouted down for being negative and wanting the WC to be a failure.

Nobody knows for sure, but the estimates are anywhere between R12 Billion and R20 Billion (that is completely apart from the cost of the road upgrades). That is only the cost of the tolling mechanism. So instead of paying for R6 Billion road upgrades, we are paying for more like R30 Billion.

Kind of explains the ANC philisophy ...
 
I think I heard something about the etag system costing over a billion a year to OPERATE, never mind the capex...

Agreed.

They should never have even built the damned gantries in the first place! They should have used our fuel levies for their intended purpose OR they should have attached an increased fuel levy to pay for the upgrades. That way they could have upgraded the roads and trimmed the budget by as much as R6 billion (the cost of the gantries and collection).
 
I would at least feel a little (very little) better if they had a big "TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY" every time mention was made of the R0.3/km rate.

Sure, if you travel on the highway for 30km or so then your rate (minimum) is around there. But if you're unlucky like me and only use about 3.5km of the highway regularly then you get hit with a nice minimum of R1/km.
