Article: New rules for garbage disposal

the municipality started a "pilot" recycling scheme here last year. wheelie bin for general rubbish, clear plastic bag for plastic containers/glass and an orange bag for paper. our plastic bags were only collected twice and the paper is always taken out of the orange bag by vagrants before the recycling truck arrives every week.

But how do we stop these vagrants from scratching in our garbage (which I believe is against the law ). Saw some of them trying to match pieces of a credit card together. Also see them gather invoices and bank statements to re-sell to criminals.

I use a pellet gun. Word has got out now my section of the street does not have that problem anymore :)

Our metro is so poor they hardly ever supply us with black plastic bags, never mind a single bin!!! And the new proposal is for multiple bins???

What gives you the idea that THEY will give you bins? ... YOU will supply your own bins

this is great. i've just bought some mini bins and started separating myself.
at least now i won't have to shlepp a couple of km's just to recycle.

I don't know where your mom lives but in kent they take recycling very seriously.
Camberley, the people must sort it. If they don't they can get a 1000pound fine, but the trucks come & all the bins go in one truck. She asked a guy the one day & his answer was they don't have the infrastructure to deal with it...

Camberley falls under Surrey Heath Council, according to their website they have a 50% rate for recycling waste, the best performing council in their area.

How is Surrey Heath performing ?
Surrey Heath is amongst the top performing boroughs, thanks to its Residents.
For 2009/10, Surrey Heath Residents have recycled about 50% of their waste. This reflects the change in the waste collection service that took place in September 2009.

Most UK councils take recycling very seriously, they make money from doing recycling and get penalised by central government if they dont.
In my area we have 3 wheelie bins, normal, recycling and garden, all are separately collected by different trucks.

Store your pets' waste (or your own if you don't have pets) in a plastic bag next to your bin. When bin day comes, empty said waste over the top of your bin's contents. The street people will very quickly learn to leave your bin alone.

This reminds me! Our garbage has still not been collected. It's been lying there since Friday. It reeks!

Service delivery? What service delivery?

I think it all depends on where you live. The worst thing that's happened to use where a few power cuts, and Jo!burg city power going ape crazy with our electricity bills.

We have regular water cuts and our garbage never gets collected on time.

At least the power is behaving itself now.
