Article: New smoking rules not well received

You don't want people to judge you based on your stupid decisions. Tough ****.

I have this tiny little violin playing for the lives of smokers.

Perfect? No, but I try to avoid repeated stupidity. Mistakes happen, learn from them and move on. Doing something stupid habitually? You may be stupid.

You should meet smarter people.

I have no desire to control your life. You want to kill yourself, go right ahead.

Two caveats though:
- I will not tolerate people who endanger others
- I will consider you an idiot, just like anyone else who habitually does stupid ****.

*Sniff* *Sniff* You are right, your sh|t don't stink dear public protector.

i wouldn't want people telling me what to believe, who to ****, what to eat, so i don't tell people if they can or can't smoke. i prefer smoking to someone doing 200KMph on the highway

so are you playing the violin or still cheering them on to die and somebody else is doing it? or can you do both because you're so perfect? ;)

it's their choice and nobody is holding a gun to your head to smoke. you however have just basically said "Yippy! smoke! die! please!" being obnoxious is must less appealing that a smoker, just so you know

Good to know. I'm sure that guys like Einstein, AG Bell, Hubble, van Gogh, Picasso and Robert Oppenheimer would beg to differ about being stupid though.

That would be the addiction talking and way you justify it too :p

I've seen both my parents and my wifes parents get taken by cancer from smoking. My father on the either hand had some of his lung cut out, and chemo for the throat cancer. He gets sick from the chemo, and has hard time breathing. He's pretty thankful that there are "smoke free" zones, because he doesnt need the smoke to contribute to the cancer he's fighting and he's finding it hard to breath "clean" air as it is (let alone feeling ill from chemo).

My wifes father wasnt so lucky and the cancer had spread too far. I'm pretty sure my wife [and her family] wished he never smoked - it's been tough emotionally [to witness cancer eat away someone] and financially (the costs are extreme... let alone the debt left behind)

So yeah... keep enjoying them.

i've seen people suffer from cancer having never smoked. my grandfather lived until 68 and spent his entire life smoking. he enjoyed it and as far as people went, he was one of the better people in life. you can die from lung cancer or get alzheimers, prostate cancer, have a series of strokes, have a heart attack, fall and live in pain until you die, etc.

the point is why bother living if you can't live life the way you want to? sure, you make it tok 96, but you had no say in your life because nobody would let you do what you wanted to do.

if people want to stop smoking, they will

edit: same with drinking, people ruin their lives there too, difference is smokers don't plow into other cars or pass out and choke on their own vomit

Not all of the ill effects of smoking was known back then. Now we know exactly how harmful it is and you keep on doing it.

who here is against smoking but drinks alocohol? :p

Of course they were. There were links to the association between smoking and lung cancer in the 1930s already.

Alcohol isn't addictive.

i disagree, i know people who can't stop drinking, people who give up and are doing it again in no time. it may not have addictive substances but it does develop as an addiction if people rely on it.

so again, who is against smoking but drinks? and how do the two differ in terms of harmfulness?

I want to live my life without having to breathe in sigarette smoke. I also want to live my life going to a bar to eat peanuts while watching the game. Now what? What about what I want?

it's the same with sound, i want to drive in a car without having to listen to Justin Bieber blaring, or i want to be able to live in my home without listenign to the neighbours fight. some things go a little further than our own bodies. cigarette smoke is as probably as harmful as walking next to the highway on your way home. we'll all be introduced to things we don't want, the trick is to learn courtesy

edit: smell too, i've given up eating sardines at work because i've been told they stink. we all make sacrifices

Smoking's negative effect (to a secondary party) comes at the time of smoking, i.e. the time the tobacco is burning.
Drinking comes afterwards and is mainly due to secondary effects like inability to properly opperate a vehicle.

It's not about what you want, but what you need. And what you need is a spell-checker.

So learn the courtesy to smoke where there are no nonsmokers.

that is what i mean :) likewise i don't watch my porn around people who don't appreciate it :p

There are something you have direct control of, and others you dont. This is false justification of "I can die any other way" is moronic. If you die this other way, then fine - nothing you can do. But dying from smoking is something you could have stopped.
