Article: Petrol attendants to strike

Please show me where I said violence is OK? I do not agree at all with violent protests.

You advocate employing unskilled labour for a task that people can do themselves, so you advocate the consequences that come with that. Even if they are paid well, they will always demand more - because of the self-entitled mentality that people like you are entrenching.

Yes. The spanner fixes the car like the pump pumps the petrol. Idiot.
This is the level of intellect that we're dealing with here. Somebody who can hold a spanner is apparently capable of fixing a car without any mechanical knowledge whatsoever.

You really think pumping petrol is on the same skill-level as an automechanic? :wtf:

No. But thinking petrol attendants add ZERO value just because most people can pump petrol is also silly as most people can also service their own cars.

Where's that facepalm smiley when we need it?

Right then....

Please elucidate WHAT value a petrol attendant offers to the equation.

You can't?? Dammit, I just bought a spanner and was planning on fixing the turbo on my father in laws diesel. And now you tell me I won't be able to? Are you sure I didn't just buy a dud spanner?! :'(

99 percent of car owners in the world pump their own fuel. Are you saying south Africans are stupider than 99 percent of the world?
Maybe that's true in your case but you don't speak for everyone.

No, you need a sprocket for the Turbo...

The spanner only works with SuperCharged vehicles.

Sorry, the store should have informed you of this.

I called that ages ago ;)
He should also get the pomp joggie to do any major surgery his family may require.
I've been told all you need to do is buy a scalpel and you're set! Ignore mikes ramblings to the contrary

No. That is what the attendant gets paid for. You ever ring up your own groceries at Woolies?
In Countries where people fill their own tanks they do ring their own groceries. It is very Clever, you put in in the trolley, And the items have frids and whala the whole trolley scans itself you only pay, And if you have a card or a smart phone you do not even need a cashier!!

Difference is I am allowed to service my own car but not allowed to put petrol in it. Ie its not being forced down my throat.

If a person cannot pump their own petrol then they are not competent to be driving.

I sincerely doubt that. Taking a pump and putting it into a conveniently-shaped hole and then putting it back after it's done is a lot easier than servicing your own car.

If you really want to be pedantic you can maybe take the convenience-value angle, but it's miniscule, and something I'd very gladly forego if I can get cheaper petrol.

People can easily push their own shopping trolleys, too. Do you think we should have a law that makes it mandatory for a grocery store to employ trolley-pushers, and that consumers be forbidden from doing it themselves? Job creation, you know...
