Article: Western Cape purging itself from blacks: ANC

Have we been reading the same thread?... I didn't see that.

You need to read better, see Fulcrum, reactor and MKFrosts' posts.

Don't coloured people count as black under the BEE system?

They do, but you will see level far above the 50% representivity of the WC population. As for whites WAY above the less tha 20% they form of the WC population.

Ok and why may that be?

"The point is, all of us make up the Western Cape and we must be reflected within the leadership of the running of our lives."
This is something I don't think I will ever understand.

I have no problem with being represented by a black person or an Indian person or a white person or a Chinese person or whatever. All I care about is that they do their job well. If they represent me properly by addressing my needs and sorting out the problems government is supposed to sort out in an effective manner then frankly who gives a schit about skin colour.

Some groups have unique needs. So it's not difficult to understand how a person raised in the townships may be beneficial to understanding the problems these people go through. A woman may be beneficial in deliberating ways of helping abused women. A cancer sufferer may be better at representing those people. The LGBTI community also prefers for people from their community to represent their views or shape policies which impact them. There is something about direct experience which cannot be learned in a textbook, journal or a lecture.

In bioethics, in institutional review boards, we make use of lay people from the community where scientific research will be conducted. This idea is further expanded by the use of Community Advisory Boards made up of members of specific communities where the research will be conducted.

Majority of staff black - Zille

Almost 80 percent of senior staff in the Western Cape are categorised as black, premier Helen Zille said on Wednesday, rebutting ANC claims of a racial "purge" in the province.

She said blacks, coloureds and Indians made up 39 276 of the 50 521 staff members who were in top or senior management, were professionally qualified or skilled technicians.

She was responding to allegations by the provincial African National Congress that the government was "purging" itself of its black staff.

MPL and former premier Lynne Brown said on Wednesday that Zille was pursuing a "refugee agenda".

Brown could not give figures of those she claimed were affected, but said "many" staff members were in various stages of progress at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).

Zille rubbished these claims.

"Lynne Brown's claims of a 'purge' of black people from the Western Cape government is complete nonsense. We note that she failed to give a single specific example, and therefore this claim is not worthy of attention."

She said the government had met its employment equity target for black women in the four top employment categories, and was apparently "over-represented" with coloured women.

Brown had alleged that staff were being purged because of procedural matters and not because they could not do their jobs.

Zille said the statistics showed that 65 percent of employees who had exited the public service had resigned, 15 percent had retired, seven percent had died, five percent had absconded or been dismissed, and the rest had been transferred.

"Lynne Brown needs to get a firm grasp of the facts first before making wild and unfounded accusations," Zille said.

"If she wishes to make a useful contribution to improving the state of the province, she should lobby her party in national government to start implementing the National Development Plan immediately."

One thing I like about Zille is that she always responds to accusations.

I do.

I prefer to be represented by people who look like me and who I can relate to/with. If I had to choose between two people who are equal in everything except race, I would choose the black person.

Then you are a racist.

Does not compute.

It's not racist to use race as a criteria but it is racist to not accept racist criteria ?

If understood to mean preference for black people over white people then yes.

Then you are a racist, end of story.

Then you are a racist.

I can't see how you come to that conclusion as he does not support race as a criterion? Are you mentally retarded?

You are a racist as you support policies simply based on the colour of a persons skin. The fscking irony is you call a person a racists because he does not support policies that benefit people based on the colour of their skin.

I'm not at all surprised that the stats are not broken down and she used the extended definition of Black

I don't see why it should matter to you. As long as you get the services you require from government to carry on with your life then who cares how much melanin the dude running the show has.

Lets create a hypothetical scenario for you:
Dude A is the race you like (fsck me just having to write that speaks volumes :erm:), however he is also a thieving, lazy schite that will not provide the services you need.

Dude B is not the race you like, however he is an upstanding honest and well educated individual with either a firm grasp himself on what you need or already has in mind a great team that will. He will do his best to ensure that you receive the services you need to keep living your life.

Are you telling me you would vote based on race under those circumstances?

Then you are a racist.
Wah??

Yes, myself and all other black people who prefer to marry other black people and white people who prefer to marry other white people. We are racist because of this type of racial preference. I like black girls more than white girls and I see nothing wrong with that coz thats what I prefer.

That last quote I can understand but it sounds like a cop out based on the the previous two quotes in a thread based on politics.

What you said said is if there are two people with equal qualifications and skill where the one was your skin colour and the other one was not your skin colour then you would pick the one that was black purely because he was black.

In the second quote you make it very clear that you prefer white people over black people. My enrgish is not that bad but I'm pretty sure that is what you implied.

You saying this would be fine but heaven forbid a white person saying the same thing, the racist accusations would never stop.

I suppose they are right, black people can't be racist. The term is only reserved for people that are not 'black'. Wonder when they are gonna start grading 'black' because I'm pretty sure there are different shades.

Oh well carry on.

Doesn't strike me as being a fair comparison at all. Black and white people have distinctly different facial features and often different cultural and religious practices too. So there are many differences to consider here your reaction to some of which are, in my experience, largely beyond your control. (I don't know about you but I certainly don't choose who I find attractive).

This is not the same as being faced with 2 identical people that will serve you as leader in the exact same manner (I'm assuming it is a good manner :p). Under that circumstance you say you would choose the one that is the same race as you. For me if they are both absolutely identical and the only thing that differs is their skin pigmentation then I really couldn't care which one leads.

I'm not necessarily saying you are a racist, but I am surprised that race is a factor for you given 2 identical clone pod people. The person is there to do a job, if 2 people can do it equally well in every respect then frankly flip a coin, don't go to race as the deciding factor.

after almost 20 years of demoracy and freedom, race still defines us. wheter we like it or not. the anc make sure of that draging race into everything. forcing bee which had been showed to only benifit a handful of blacks. and many other silly laws.

i've got nothing against ppl of any other race. we were all born to God's image, say the bible. but i can choose who i want as my friends.

but the black guy with aids that raped my mother when she was 83 years old, did not live up to this. he showed that he dont care about other ppl. and he recently killend a woman that stayed a few houses from where he raped and left my mom for dead. he got a life sentence after my mom's rape but were released after 2 years and 3 months because he were dying from aids. he knocked on my mom's car window and told her he were back.

i've got absulolutely nothing about qualified coloreds or blacks doing a great job. my problem is with the incompetant ones thats there because some silly law say so.

like most "ministers, mec's and mayors" which only work for their own pockets and not for the ppl that pay their rediculous salaries.

Why is it difficult to understand?

My first post say that I prefer to be represented by people who look like me - black people. Second post say that I prefer black people over white people in general. Third post says that I prefer black girls over white girls.

All these posts are the same, they talk about my preference which is no difference from the rest of you coz it's human nature to like people who look like you therefore you would want them to represent you.

I could really not care less what colour or creed you are but I could care about running water, staffed public services etc etc.

Does this not also stem from a cultural preference, as regardless of skin color you would identify with these people as they come from the same cultural background as you.

That said within the black grouping I am sure that you would also have groups that you are more inclined to?
