Na they are only valid if you are a standard bank cardholder. Had a look at my brochure this month, the 701 is for "gold" cardholders, the 700 for any cardholder. I have purchased a "Gold" cardholder item in the past with my normal card, they dont seem to be too worried as long as its a standard bank card!

I've held myself back from buying this until the Intel Atom ones come along
Hopefully the 20GB model would be cheaper by then

EDIT: and Bluetooth addon :P

How is it? Typing out your notes and stuff? Its what I primarily want to use it for... And whats the boot time for XP? Do you use XP lite?

But ya, typing is slower than on a full-size keyboard but I can still keep up in lectures. The boot time is also quite fast - not much slower than my desktop. Not at all. Didn't even bother with XP lite. Plain old standard XP SP2.

yip..you have to make sure da fingers push each key properly...not designed for big fingers and fast typing :)

I would say better than that. Considering that you are going to have to sit quite close to the screen to watch anything and probably won't be using the speakers for playing music in a big room, I think they are more than adequate :)

Not a chance. First of all, SSD's aren't much cheaper than a year ago, so 20GB's going to nail you. Secondly, the screen's bigger and higher resolution natively, so also more expensive and thirdly, there's no way the atom costs less than a Celeron M. The US price for the 9" EEE is $600+ where the 7" model is like $250. You'd be lucky to pick up the 9" for less than R6000

That is what i am thinking as well. Which makes it an expensive toy.
 
Yup. If I had around 7k to spend on a laptop, I'd rather get a descent 15". That said, I have a 7" EEE and it's very useful, but I'd rather have the 15" if I had the cash to splash.

Asus today officially launched its new Eee PC 901 and 1000 of ultra mobile PCs (UMPCs). The new units come equipped with solid state drives that range from 12GB to 40GB depending on the model. The new models take on the success of last Eee PC models, which have gained a huge level of popularity among serious users, travelers and casual users alike.

Newest to the line up is the Eee PC 1000, which is Asus’ top end Eee PC model. Two Eee PC 1000 models launched: Eee PC 1000 and Eee PC 1000H, with the difference being that the 1000 has a 40GB SSD drive and the 1000H has a regular 80GB drive. Both units are equipped with 10-inch displays and support up to 2GB of memory.

The Eee PC 901 is a smaller unit with a 8.9-inch display and supports a 12GB SSD drive for Windows XP Home. Users who opt to go for the Linux version get a 20GB SSD. The Eee PC 901 only supports 1GB of memory.

In terms of sizes, the Eee PC 1000 is slightly larger than the original Eee PC 701 and even the new 901. Because of the size difference, the 1000 weighs in at 3.19-pounds while the 901 weighs in at roughly just 2-pounds.

All three units will be powered by Intel’s Atom processor which we reported on last week. Asus said that all three units will come with Super Hybrid Engine, which is a power saving feature that monitors and changes CPU frequency, voltage and screen brightness on the fly to save power. On the most aggressive settings, Asus said that HSE can give users up to 7.8 hours of battery life.
