ASUS EEE PC - 7" Laptop

Any idea what resolution the VGA out can out put at?

Wonder if anyone rents these out for a day, I need to test it before buying it...

I pan to use the one USB for the touchscreen interface, the other for a 160GB HDD and the last for either bluetooth or a GPS... or both using a bluetooth GPS :p
 
Would one of these things work with a Vodafone 3G HSDPA modem? The e200 one, cuz im going to convince my dad to get one....All he needs is to simply word documents, gmail and ya, basic things like that...How hard is it to use the OS?

Is that a USB modem?

The basic OS is IMO pretty poor. It is easy to put Windows XP on it though, and that runs just fine.

If anyone has any ideas as to where to buy accessories for the EEE in SA then please let me know so I can add it to the OP...

Looking for

1) Laptop bag/ carry case / cover that fits the EEE
2) Additional battery / Bigger extended life battery

Graphics Integrated Intel GMA 900 graphics processor (Shared Memory Architecture), additional VGA port (up to 1600×1280 pixels)
 
E220 USB modem is apparently picked up by default on the Linux operating system.

OP= Original post. That is what I will be updating for easy reference.

If that modem is USB then XP will pick it up fine as well AFAIK.
 
Now the big question, what the heck do i use it for :p

Another stupid question, can i install office on a sd card ?

I use it like I would a normal lappie - take it to varsity to take notes, write essays, browse the net etc.

The SD card will come up like a normal HDD so you should be able to install most programs on there. I couldn't install AVG on the SD card sadly, as it reckoned it had to be installed to the root drive where the OS is. But otherwise, everything else has worked on the SD card :)
 
lovely, thanks muchly especially for the "external" hdd dvd drive story. Was thinking i would have to go out and buy an external tomorrow :)

just hope i can put my external back together :D

Ya, nlite was a bit of a bridge too far for me. Far too fiddly. The normal install worked perfectly. Came to 900MB but that was enough space to install the ASUS drivers and some other basic apps on the main SDD still leaving enough space to run the OS fine.
 
Shall remove whatever extras i can once it is finally installed :)

Have loaded office onto the sd and avg loaded on c: still 690 meg available. Had to get rid of page file to free up 700 meg :)

I had Windows on it, but have gone back to Xandros...I don't like the tabbed interface AT ALL - makes it like a toy...So I switched to the advanced desktop and am loving it...Slowly becoming a Linux c0nvert! Also we just had a virus at varsity, and I was the only one who wasnt worried about sticking my USB drive into the PC's :D
