ASUS EEE PC - 7" Laptop

Ordered the 4G because of the ability to clock the thing to it's actual 900Mhz. Some people get up to 1.1Ghz though, but that seems to be kinda unstable most of the time. Also ordered a 1gb 667Mhz SO-DIMM, so I'll pop that in when it arrives. Rectron's out of stock on the machines at the moment unfortunately...hopefully the store can find it at another supplier since I like buying from them.

Got my 4G from take2. R3600 delivered in 3 days from time of order. loving it.
 
Out of stock *gasp* seems realy popular... Asus has created a monster!! *meow* ... :)

On the 2G model, could you add more ram to it even though there is no access bay door? Basically could you take the thing apart and there would be a spare ram slot even though the 512mb chip is soldered on??? That way I could get a maximum 1.5 Gb of ram which tied in with a 8 gig SD card isn't a bad little machine for office and email.

I think I saw something on the internet to this effect - the question at least. I presume there are actually two slots and that that should work in theory but I am not keen to try it out :eek:
 
only problem I see with the EEE PC is the batery life :(

There is the as well and the fact that it seems you can't get any accessories for it in SA yet...like a car charger , or extra long-life battery, or even a cover or case...
 
Hmmm, so I dont have a windows key, and am having to return to linux, which I am secretly happy about, except, I cant restore it via USB -_- the Asus app just dies on me
 
Well no not quite for R2700...

The base model is $400. For that price you get a 1 ghz Via Chip (which is terrible, vastly worse than the chip in the EEE) and a 4 gig flash drive. For $500 though you get a 1 gig chip of ram, 120 gig hard drive and a 1.2 ghz processor (which is still not as good as the celeron in the EEE in certain instances).

I still think the EEE is better, roll on 900 models, I can barely wait.

That said, the HP is purdy....

ya, the HP is prettier and the screen is bigger too. $500 is like R3500 which is not too bad for the 2nd option you mentioned. Sucks that the processors are so poor though, and what will battery life be like in that case?
 
Not sure on the battery life, similar to the EEE I suppose.
When they get Atom processors this machine is going to rock. It's a lot more professional looking than a EEE when it comes to going to a meeting.

Just to add: 1280X768 resolution is great and the close to full size keyboard is also appealing.

Yip. I have to agree. Something different to the EEE though. Can certainly see both proving popular in the future. EEE low end and the HP high end.
 
Stupid Question - does it have VGA output? and how many USB ports?

I'm thinking of using one as car PC with a 7" touchscreen LCD upfront...
