ASUS EEE PC - 7" Laptop

I had Windows on it, but have gone back to Xandros...I don't like the tabbed interface AT ALL - makes it like a toy...So I switched to the advanced desktop and am loving it...Slowly becoming a Linux c0nvert! Also we just had a virus at varsity, and I was the only one who wasnt worried about sticking my USB drive into the PC's

I think the basic interface is a great way to get young kinds used to PC's and most of all Linux. The advanced interface was so buggy for me I could no longer stand it. On the 1st day of using it, my taskbar just disappeared never to be seen again. Poor form

Lol, it isnt that hard actually...I used instructions from eeeuser.com . Basically, you have to copy the contents of the .icewm folder to somewhere, and then download a few apps

Edit: BTW hj2k_x, are you sure you didnt hit the arrows to the side, because they hide the taskbar lol...I did that a few times

Thats bad ...Guess I have been lucky

Last night I was trying to add desktop items, but I couldnt find where the equivalent of a windows "exe" was kept, so I just had to go through every folder trying each file lol...Found it in the end now, and I know where all the "exe"s, I think they are .deb's, are kept

Quick update.

I am still loving my EEE. The battery life is not as good as it could be, is about the only complaint I have right now.

Running XP, it will get you 2 hours to 2 hours 45 with light use. With wireless on, downloading constantly, browsing and typing I get 1 hour 45mins maximum

It's not bad, I just expected it to be a bit better.

Still no sign of accessories like bigger batteries in this country

question to anyone who knows...

i have not played with the eee myself - customer got one....got his e220 to connect ect..but it only does at gprs speeds...when he puts an xp laptop in exactly the same place as the eee he gets 4/5 hsdpa signal.

my q: is there a place in the o/s that one can set network speed preference

How is he connecting? Maybe check out the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card driver for Linux.

They were reduced to R2500 for the Crazy sale last week - very good price that.

By the position of the graphic I think that only applies to the 4 gig and not the 2 gig.

I noticed that, maybe they just forgot the 3rd graphic, cause the page that leads to that one also states "Exclusive offers to Gold credit card customer."

Was wondering how they'll check up on it, from the sounds of it you just enter the code and then you get the discount. Or it'll probably only allow the transaction through with the code if you pay using your Gold card
