ATI 5850 with Intel Q9550

AMD Overdrive is fantastic. But you can also do it easily in bios. Why don't you see if it works? I've done 3.6 with my 965 easily. What score do you have at stock brawler, and what are the default clocks of your 5850?

stock 965 at 3.4Ghz, sotck asus 5850 at 725mhz
 
Lack of L3 cache is probably the reason for the difference w/ the Q9550, esp since it seems to have increased effect over 3ghz.
 
Problem with any benchmark is that it's really variable. Best to do a spread of benches and aggregate them. Some will prefer amd, some intel, some need hyperthreading, some do better without multicore, etc.
 
sooo... no one noticed that I was running 1280x1024 and brawler was running 1280x768 :erm:

doesnt explain the 20 fps difference in far cry 2 though... :wtf:
 
Yea but still 20FPS in far cry is quite a bit.

I doubt either cpu is holding the card back, i honestly cannot see how. With gaming there is no ways brawler's 965 is holding his card back. For gaming i7 and amd are basically on par. Unless you start looking at 10k intel cpu's then maybe you may be a few more FPS but the 920 i7 and 965 amd are basically the same for gaming and i would have thought the q9550 would not be far behind.

I never looked for the second part of the 1280 :D.
 
The Q9550 at stock is definitely holding it back. Performance seems to scale upwards on a direct line when you overclock it.

Could be the mobo i cannot see the q9550 limiting a 5850, i thought gpu's were not so cpu limited anymore.

it's a P5nd-Sli. How can it possibly limit anything? So long it runs 16x pci-e.

Well i dunno cerebus i do not see why a q9550 would give up 20FPS to an amd 965 or i7 for that matter. So i would say it could possibly be the mobo that could be the problem. Cannot think of any other reason and i cannot believe the q9550 is 20FPS slower in real time than a 965 amd. Maybe an ati card performance is better on a amd platform. Maybe the nvidia chipset is not friends with amd or something :D.

yeah Im back down to stock... the OC was just too unstable and driving me nuts

I can live with it for now, but Im selling my stuff for R3500 and will upgrade from there
 
stock 2.83ghz 3dmark run - 16k
OC 3.3ghz 3dmark run - 18-19k

Pretty straightforward.
