That MSI board is win.

Did you not actually swap out psu's? Well...that would be an obvious place to check. There may just be a fault on your own psu.

Ok my offer stands - you want to test it, my psu is open. Otherwise it's back to brawler's :P

Which would u go for, the cheaper brand ecs for R1000 or the slightly poorer specced but superior brand msi for R850?

I'm guessing your response above means the msi.

see you tonight! :)

Ill just bring my tower, easier. Need to go home after work, pick it up, then Ill come through... cool?

With my Sig RIG at stock i get 19k and 3DMark is more GPU dependant than anything else (with a 200mhz OC only my cpu score improved, overall score remained the same). Try a different PSU as others have said.

When xfiring the 2 cards, the slow one was supposed to be the primary card and the OCd one the secondary card :P

Silver show me screenie of your 3dmark score please, would like to see you 860 score, i also wanna see your other 2 scores.

I get 20k in 3dmark with my i7 would be interesting to see your 860 score :D.

Ya make the trip to cerebus tonight dude, could just be your PSU which you should replace anyhow even if it is not the psu. Seems with your system you are living on the edge of that power supplies capability :D.

What is so poorer specced about the MSI?

Well the msi doesnt have onbard esata* or an onboard gpu** with sideport memory and it's 790x/710 versus 790gx/750. I also read in a review that only some of the msi capacitors are solid.

Regarding memory the msi list the following: Supports Dual DDR3 800/1066/1200 (OC) whereas the ecs is ddr 3 1333.

To be honest the lack of an esata port was a bit of a hassle up to this point, but iv'e decided to pony up and get a coolermaster 690 which has front panel esata which i assume*** just plugs directly into one of the onboard sata ports.

*was an issue
**Not really an issue
***do i assume correctly?

Im taking bets now...

1. either the cpu/ram/mb combo

OR

2. the PSU

Place your bets please :p :D

Odds for PSU 5/10
mobo/ram config 15/10

Gimme 500 on psu :D.

What i found odd was your 2 3dmark runs, the cpu lost 200 points second time round. Now that is odd.

Onboard gpu is a biggie for me tbh - I switch out gpu's all the time so I need something to fall back on. E-sata is nice to have at the back rather than the front panel because if you leave an external hdd plugged in it looks ugly. And the ram - hm. Ok well go with the more expensive one then, those are big minus points.

...and here i thought asking obvious question was kinda pointless. I completely forgot about the "esata drive plugged in 24/7 issue". Good that decides it then, thanks.

You couldn't oc at all? That's a decent performance board you have - should be able to get something out of it. Ok i'm leaning more and more towards the psu now.

it was quite a while ago that I tried till I was blue in the face

stock is 2.93 and I think I managed to get it to 3.1/3.2 nothing higher

a lot of people are running them at 3.4/3.6 but I had no luck at all

I did offer to swap PSU's yesterday..

indeed, but we were running low on time... and I wanted to have time so you could test xfire

no worries though, I quite like somerset west... and plus, I get to meet another forum member! :)
