doesn't take a genuis to figure it out but here goes, i'll abc it for you.

example :

1. old results recieved with benchmarks :

3200 AMD socket 939 CPU.

video encoding - result X
gaming benchmarks - Result X
rendering benchmark - result X

new results recieved with ATI stream :
3200 AMD Socket 939 CPU.

video encoding - result y
gaming benchmarks - result y
rendering benchmark - result y

ATI stream is directly affecting CPU results in benchmarks and therefore making old benchmarks obsolete.

example 2 :

intel system old benchmarks :

intel coreduo - result x
AMD athlon x2- result x

intel system new benchmarks :

intel coreduo - result x
amd athlon X2 - result y

In new result the intel stayed the same but AMD went up in points. Meaning every single AMD CPU since socket 939 will give higher results with a hd4000 series card. if you re benchmark the whole lot you might find that AMD might just have a lead over the intel CPU's now that they didnt before.

it is really revolutionary that a GPU has the ability to influence a CPU score directly in benchmarks, and the fact that an old CPU can now maybe get a 30% or higher increase in performance is history in itself.

Im not saying that all the AMD CPU's will beat the intel ones, maybe they do and maybe they dont. what i found astonishing is that ATI/AMD has now found a way of increasing performance on their products right across the board going back as far as models that are 5 years old. that is what i meant by AMD changing history. it is really quite an achievement.

it will also be very funny to see an old AMD CPU that was bashed and flamed because of poor preformance suddenly being hailed for the performance boost and beating an intel that previously whipped its butt. - :)

Keep in mind that ATI stream is open source, and developers will be taking full advantage of it, so most common apps will probly be making full use of the feature.

Where are you getting this bull from amaedict? The intel platform you see in the bench, is a pure CPU Transcoding bench, the AMD system used STREAM Processing while the Nvidia system used CUDA or whatever to do the Transcoding - purely for comparison purposes. They are not "capping" Intel at all. Linking to the Original source from the beginning might cancel out misunderstandings like this.

but intel with nvidia or ATI still wont beat and AMD with ATI stream. so it doesnt really matter either way.

ATI has a clear lead here. and you should really read the post i made above. it doesnt matter wheither AMD beats intel on their current CPU's.

They have found a way to increase performance right accross the board on all cpu's since socket 939, making the bang for your buck even better ......

AMD are already cheap, and some people feel they offer more for their money's worth. now they will look even better for anyone buying new.

and for people that needed an upgrade, all they have to do is buy a new GPU and their system gets a nice overall boost.

what i can't help thinking is what stops the intel system from using an AMD gpu, and then using stream?
 
I have looked at that. That is a AMD vs NVIDIA comparison. How does that prove anything re: Intel?

because intel cant do the same.

becase intel will for example get 3000 on a benchamrk with a 4850

and the amd that would normally have gotten 2800 will now get 3100 ....

it makes the gap between AMD and intel smaller. even on older CPU's.

ATI stream only affects AMD cpu's, not intel. And intel does not have a GPU to take advantage of any of the stream technology.

I thought you guys said you were Intelligent ? it does not take a genius to add 2 and 2.

either way AMD is looking to be in a good position as ATI stream automaticly bumps up their CPU's to a new level of speed. The requirements for ATI stream is a socket 939 CPU, so even older cpu's will suddenly get a speed jump, which means that older AMD cpu's that were outclassed by intel might now in turn be doing the outclassing.

This is really a massive move for ATI as it Literally changes history in other words. every single benchmark since socket 939 cpu's become obsolete ....

its exactly what i am saying.

ATI Stream = built for AMD cpu's only. it doesnt affect intel cpu's.

To answer zenbaas :
intel has no GPU dapartment to take advantage of stream technology. its why they showed the intel with onboard graphics, because its all intel has, it has no GPU.

they are comparing intel vs Nvidia vs AMD/ATI

you cant compare intel with nvidia and put a nvidia card on the intel system now can you ? neither can you compare an intel to an AMD / ATI and put an ati card on an intel.

for the life of me, I can't understand why amd would make ATI stream exclusive... sure it might improve sales, but most of the computers with AMD gpu's are intel systems... that would be sorta dumb as that means people with intel (the majority) would opt for nvidia... thus not solving anything...

I got the impression that ATI stream was just like CUDA, so all it does, is it runs apps using the gpu rather then the cpu, which of course is faster... they had the intel test to show you that using the ati gpu destroys the intel cpu...

I'll go do some research on this, as I don't have enough info to start shutting down people and calling bs on there arguments

you dont get a performance boost on an intel CPU with ATI stream, you do with an AMD cpu.

as i said to the scotty, go and read up about ATI stream a bit, im done trying to disect everything for you.

yes, that's my logic as well... I scoured through the AMD website, and I found NOTHING but ATI stream being cpu/system dependent...

All ati stream does, is run the applications on the gpu rather then the cpu. So you could have and Intel or AMD cpu, but the results will be the same... just as with Nvidia CUDA, you can have an Intel or AMD cpu, buyt when you use cuda, the end result will be the same...

Does every one else feel the same way as ld13 and myself do?

I'd love your source ... I have all the time in the world. I'd read it all. I'd come back and call it BS all over again, or apologize with an in-depth report if I find out you are right. But till date, you have not responded with anything concrete to back your claims. And this is not the first time I asked for a link.

in fact, keeper, you can be our tester :D... just down load the new driver, and have a look if you get a dramatic boost in performance when you use the gpu to do the encoding...

If you do see a performance boost, then amaedict needs to apologizes.

If you see no improvement(give for take 5 min) then I will send out a formal apology
