Audi A3 oil consumption

Heard about a friend of someone i know that also has a 2010 Audi with the same issue out of motor plan and Audi SA paid for the rebuild in full.
 
Eish, so I checked my oil levels after doing 500km, 20 minutes after getting home today and it doesn't look like it has dropped any. Will check again in the morning when the oil is cold.

Could they have somehow have done some quick fix to address the issue at my last service 2 weeks ago?

It's not a quick fix at all so unlikely.

Ultimately oil should always be checked warm say 5 minutes after switching it off.

Completely cold will give lower readings.
 
^ Thanks, well i first checked the day after the service when it was cold at the level was at about 85%. Checked again today from cold, and I would estimate it's at maybe 50% now, after doing 620km. Not 100% sure if at this point it is definitely going to exceed 500ml use for the 1000km travelled :(

When checking, theres a streaky bit and a wider spread of the oil. Which do I base my measurement on?

You should take out the dip stick and wipe it down the re-insert it for the reading.

Then there should be no streaky bit.

I did, I always wipe it down first. Not so much a streaky bit but the oil comes to a point... and I do try to hold the dipstick level so that the oil doesn't run up or down. I'll take another pic soon.

Here's the pic straight after the service 2 weeks ago but because the oil was clearer back then, the level it was at it didn't come out so great in the photo.

800km travelled since the oil consumption test was started, below photo taken with the engine and oil cold (not driven for 24 hours) this afternoon. I'd estimate I'm on track to use up 700 to 800ml by the time I hit 1000km.

Oh, I read a post on that Audi A5 / a5oc forum where they were saying basically that town driving would use up much more oil than freeway driving. I've been doing mostly freeway driving the last 3 weeks which is maybe why the oil seemed to go down much slower than normal. Now I have a reason to do more stop/start town driving over the last stretch... just 140km more to go!

Is it just me or does your oil look silver and shiny?
 
Ugh, took my A3 in and they are going to drain and weigh the oil. I think it is going to be borderline whether I pass or fail the test.

The much improved oil consumption is probably due to the oil being changed in the last service :mad:
 
Results are in, my A3 used almost a litre of oil for the 1000km test. Still have to hear back from Audi SA and see what happens next.
