Lets see they developed a Road Car a big bulky all the extras Road Car that is probably aerodynamically superior to many F1 cars, the Bugatti's Theoretical top speed is 414 km/h you can find out what that means here http://www.welltall.com/ymc/discovery/car/maxspeed.html

ok, you've already admitted you don't know much about motor sport, so let me enlighten you Audi has dominated almost every Motor Sport it's decided to compete in, in many cases Audi Cars were handicapped to keep the sport competitive, and in a few rare cases Audi was even completely banned from the sport due to them being over competitive( as in winning every race by a number of laps) if you honestly think that a manufacturer with a racing history such as that of Audi will not be competitive from day one in any motor sport they decide to participate in you are mistaken.

The Bugatti achieves that top speed, thanks mostly to the HUGE amount of power developed. I think it is 1001BHP! Achieving massive speed has more to do with the propulsion than design. Look at a 747 or even the A380.

As for Audi's "domination" of motor sports, since their old Auto Union days they have not done anything spectacular when the playing fields are level. I say that becuase, when they came with Quatro they were banned as all other teams were using 2 wheel drive. And the whole Le Mans winning can be put down to the Diesel engine, more torque and FAR more economical.

I would also not want to see diesel cars around the Monaco! So I think if they come into F1, where engines, drivetrains have to meet certain regulations, they would take time to be competitive.

AHAHAAHAHAHAAHAAH!! No-one gave Audi any chance of coming close with their "tractors". Diesel engines are not known for their speed (hence their use in tractors, trucks and other farming implements) so Audi's achievements at Le Mans are even more spectacular.


[edit - and while we're on that topic, define torque as apposed to power and explain how torque would be preferable :) )

Dude, nobody has been able to explain what torque is to me clearly. All I know is that diesel cars typically have higher torque than petrol cars. And generally the peak torque in diesel cars is far lower in the rev range, thus allowing the car to deliver it's peak power earlier than petrol cars.

I'm afraid thats where my limits in knowladge of physics goes.:D

anyone else with a better explanation?

Torque is "pulling power"
Diesel car need high torque because it uses compression to burn fuel and not a spark plug like with petrol engines.

Most diesel cars will stall under 1000rev on take off, they need the turbo to help the accelerate.

Torque in normal cars are just as important! You can have all the kilowatts and no torque they car will still be slow, like with the RunxRsi 141kw not enough torque and the car is a flop!:p
MOst VW have alot of torque! In a Citi golf standard torque in the car can tear the chassis apart or split the fenders!

Most golf that race have big gaps between the fenders and the bonnet, thats mainly because of torque...

Torque helps the acceleration and kw helps the top end.... If that makes any sense.
