a little background to give the reply-er decent ammo to shoot back..;) :D

I live within 200 meters of one of the 8ta transmitters/relay stations in my area. my signal strength is always perfect.
I recently acquired the 8ta 120gig promo deal which was a very good deal in my opinion. Currently running a Huawei e173 stick modem with 8ta connect branded software.
my downloads speeds are not great for some unknown reason but I can live with even that.

what is a problem for me is the continues disconnecting I get from my dashboard. I disconnect at least 5 times daily and also during night-owl times. I am a technician in the cellular industry so I understand there is no such thing as 100% up-time... but do I really have to get disconnected every few hours for no reason. I can reconnect manually in a second after dropping connection.

here is my thinking...

1- Do I drop the 8ta connect dashboard for one with much ore functionality provided by Huawei for the their modem. this 8ta branded dashboard is very disappointing.

2- Is their a way 8ta can stop disconnecting me??

3- If I do get disconnected why can this 8ta-connect dashboard not auto reconnect me right away.

We are living in the age of information. I make my living of the net monitoring sites for my clients. I have not once being able to go through the night without loosing connection during the night. Every time this happens I am not providing a decent service to my clients.

please help me... and for the sake of other having this issue please answer me here so the next guy looking can get his answer also here.

I am still happy with the 8ta 120gig promo... no problems there.. just help me smooth the road a little.. :D

and as I tried posting this the first time I got disconnected yet again.. for no reason...

Have you tried this?

Goto Control Panel
Click Network Connections
Right Click your connection (8ta)
You will now see the drop down menu
Click the Options Tab
Goto Redialing Options and select Redial If Line Is Dropped

Hope this helps, otherwise goto your modem settings and select network settings then tick HSDPA or UMTS or whatever it is called as preferred mode, just make sure you select the fastest (this resolved my disconnect issue)

thanx for this very clear response.

I do however do not have this options tab available to me nor does anything on my 8ta connect dashboard respond to the right click of my mouse.

I am almost convinced that the dashboard software might be lacking enough functions. Rather disappointing for such a large company branded dashboard.

forgive me if my frustrations filter through but its really annoying when you loose test results due to connectivity issues.

on the plus for 8ta I can say this. I ran the speed test on the link provided by their rep and my speeds are great according to the test. so kudos to 8ta on that area..:)

thanx again for the technical reply.

Of to search for other firmware...

OK not sure why you can't see the 8ta dial-up connection icon in the network connection, however I'm using the CellC dashboard software works perfect for me, give it a go.
Good luck!

I found a dashboard called mobile partner online that was recommended on the Huawei website for their modems. gonna install that and when I get back online I will report on it.

The Reason you don't see a dial up connection because the modem is creating a NDIS (seen by windows as a network adapter) connection and not a Dial-up connection.

Go into the 8ta connection manager, click tools, options.

Under the general tab select "RAS(modem)" instead of "NDIS" this should sort the dropping of connections out :p

Sweet stuff.. I will try that now... and yes my 8ta connect is set to NDIS... correctly spotted..

gimme a minute will be right back.

From my personal experience the 8ta dashboard, although pretty and flashy, is functionally pathetic :P

I FAR prefer MDMA (Site | Download Link) - Try it out and see if it makes a difference.

NOTE: Both cannot run at the same time - You will need to close the 8ta Dashboard for MDMA to work (If it partially fills the green bar at the top, it's working)

NOTE 2: Although they cannot be run simultaneously, MDMA won't work if you uninstall the 8ta Dashboard - Not sure why exactly, but I think it's something driver related...

ok.. I am back up and running Mobile Partner dashboard. Already much better than the 8ta brand dash I have to say... :(

but I am online. went live this hour.. will see how long I stay connected and if I auto reconnect should connection be lost.

thanx for the help so far. Will report.

@reelix I tried that download but it would not install on my win7 Ultimate.

@Hummercellc and ahf... thanx for both the inputs.. I applied the settings and will see if I re-connect now..:)

was able to unzip... but not able to get anything to run..

and I did read about closing other dashboard first an all the rest of the txt file info.

In addition to closing other dashnoard (make sure is not present on system tray), you need network connection named MDMA. Rename the existing one.

Good day to all.

Ok time to report back. I wil not repeat my original problem as it can be found at the top of this thread..

What I did.
- uninstalled the 8ta branded dashboard ( c'mon 8ta really bad to brand such an inferior dashboard).:confused::wtf:
-Installed mobile partner V27 as this is also the software recommended by Huawei.
-Went to Mobile Partner- clicked options- general - and changed my connection type from "NDIS" to RAS(modem).
- Went to windows control panel and made sure that windows did not switch off device for powersaving options. (nice tip from microsoft boys):D
-Then set Mobile Partner to always run at start-up and restarted my PC. This was at 17:30 yesterday.
-Also ran speed test on my modem on the speed test site recommended by the 8ta rep.

Results.
One happy customer.... :D
- Line was dropped sometime in the early morning but reconnected withing a minute again and all my stuff kept on working as they were supposed to.
-Other than the one drop I could not explain the connection was perfect.
My speed test results was great also so I seem to have a great connection to 8ta in my area. Even ping time was perfect.

My own comments on this episode:
@ hummercellc, r3eelix and ahf... you guys were awesome!! You helped me quick and with decent suggestions well worth trying and this ended up getting me to the point of solving the problem. Kudos to you guys.

@ My Broadband Forum... Thanx for providing us as the consumer this great platform to run to in bad weather times. I love this forum :D  and will remain here indefinately. By far the best feedback on comunication issues I have found on the web.

@ 8ta... some sweet and sour there...
-Firstly I was impressed that you guys have an active Representative on the forum. Great work.
- I was a little disappointed that the said rep ignored my thread even after asking him/her to look at it in another thread they posted on while I was online.
- My only real complain or thing that upset me to no end. The inferior quality of the dashboard provided under the 8ta brand. This is really a very pathetic dashboard with extremely limited functionality and user-interface. better to use the basic one provided from Huawei themselves. In this area you guys can learn from the other service providers as to the needs of users.
- Last but not least, I was and still is however very happy with your 120gig promotion I purchased earlier this month.Still think its the best wifi deal out there!!

my 2 cents. hope this helps anyone else with similar issues on the dashboard..:)

Hi Mosescapetown and everyone else!

We have been called into a rather important meeting regarding the social media strategy and new products and only finished recently. We did take our laptops and intended to responded during the meeting, but we needed to be a lot more involved with what was dicussed.

We are happy that you were able to resolve your query and we have to thank everyone for assisting you in this regard. We also have to respond to PMs as a priority as these are direct requests for assistance whereas forum threads are a bit more general requests for assistance hence the delay in responses on threads.

We are available for any further assistance requested and will try and respond a lot sooner.

Regards,
Social Media Team

@ Mosescapetown, great to hear!

But if you ever want a rock solid connection with 8ta i have found the Huawei B660 router to be 100% perfect!
If the base station dies or signal is lost it auto connects within seconds of the dropout.
I have one and never had to reset it once, it is always just online.
Ok the price tag of R1050 from 8ta or Telkom store but worth every penny.

USB sticks work well, but have their limitations....

I will definitely look into this deal. This might be well worth it for me to give a better service to my clients.

Thanx for responding to my thread. have you guys any more feedback on a proper dashboard for your modems any time soon??

It could be any other router with internal battery. Reason is that USB dongle disconnects having insufficient power. It draws lot of current in short pulses, many USB hosts are unable to supply.

On the other side be prepared that it might not help, as random disconnections is one of 8ta network problems. But at least you can diagnose it this way.
