Auto Stop-Start: Enable/Disable?

Not that simple with a dual clutch. ideally you dont want any middle ground with the break pedal. you either stopped or you moving. you shouldnt creep. Sure you can if you want, but its not recommended

I didn't see this when you originally posted it but you are 100% correct. Most people assume a DCT gearbox is simply and automatic and don't understand that it has clutches, well a clutch pack, that wears. When I had my Golf I made sure that when I was stationary the brake pedal was depressed fully and I never crept forward using the brake pedal to avoid excessive clutch pack wear.

New Celery is the cheapest new car with stop/start.

DRIVEN: New Suzuki Celerio is a decent and economical budget hatch

It’s the most affordable car locally with ESP (electronic stability programme) and also the only entry-level car with an auto stop/start system.

Suzuki, no doubt, has another winner in its stable with the Celerio. Overall, it’s a decent package that’s budget conscious and frugal, without skimping on the safety of its occupants.

It comes with a five year/200 000km mechanical warranty and a Roadside Assistance programme for the same period as well as a six year/unlimited kilometre anti-corrosion warranty.

All models have a two year/30 000km service plan.

Suzuki Celerio pricing (March 2022)

1.0 GA MT: R174 900

1.0 GL MT: R194 900

1.0 GL AMT: R209 900

My car has it, but I think the battery needed is stronger than what I have fitted. Last time I got a new battery, the stop-start worked again for about two days, and after that, never again. Suits me fine.

With modern cars its very important to have the correct battery as most of the control unit ( engine control unit, transmission control unit, body control units) need the correct amount of power to function as intended, over or under supply of power will result in some false errors

Alan R (MotorMatters) moaning about SS on the XUV700, 5min mark side.

This is actually a good car for the price the non L model if you dont need the 7 seats
I would look into this over its competition but the only downside there is no diesel, this needs a diesel engine.

The XUV700 is making tons & tons of waves, the value aspect (full blown big 7 seater is impressive). WRT the petrol vs diesel matter I'm sure there are some folks who would prefer a petrol actually but having diesel would have been good to allow more choice.

Technically it's the right spec, so I'm not quite sure what's potting.

To reply to my own post: I got a new battery, and there were two specced for the car. I got the more expensive one (R3.5K!) which apparently puts out more amps, and stop-start has worked fine ever since.

I don't bother turning it off as I've mastered the pressure I need to push on the brake before it engages. I'll maybe accidentally do it once or twice a year which isn't a big deal.

I recently drove a 2022 - peugeot 208 GT in the UK for a week. The start stop feature was way more annoying in that car compared to my 2013 Audi S4.

Here’s How Many Times Toyota Will Let Your Car Start-Stop Before Replacing Your Starter

Automatic start/stop systems have raised concerns about adding stress to vehicle systems, but Toyota thinks you'll be fine for quite a while.

I wouldn't mind the stop start if it didn't cut out literally before my wheels even stop turning. I had a BMW 1 series that only stopped when you where stationary and only if you pressed the brake a little harder than is necessary to hold your position.

Yeah some cars are way too sensitive. You basically roll a bit to stop at a traffic light and the engine is off.
I got used to it through the years it don’t bother me much. And with electric cars it’s a non issue any way.

Absolutely.
I had an A3 and didn't bother turning it off because I could bring the car to a halt and know exactly how much pressure would cause the SS system to kick in.

Switched to golf (Same thing right?) and it would kill the engine when I go too slowly over a speed bump.
Queried with VW twice and they said the system is working as intended.
