Axpert invertors

I have a 2K with 2 x 102Ah in series, and very happy with it. I run ALL my lights (all LED) and 2 plugs (TV, decoder, amp, sub, BD & Media PC on one and PC, 2 monitors & router on the other). When typical things are on, goes to about 600VA. Never had it over 1200VA, with everything on. I was contemplating adding the fridge, but for now, not going to bother as it's cold enough.

The big advantage of the 2K to me is that I didn't have to change my breaker & wiring going to the garage. 20A is specified by the manual. Going bigger would have required me to replace the wiring and breaker.

Which make have you got? ... I see Rectron only adsvertising the Axpert 1K, 3K & 5K

I have an Axpert KS 1kVA - purely for use as a UPS for load shedding. It is the cheapest option.

Here is a pic of my installation

That's very nicely done. From the Inverter side of things, the only recommendation I can make, is for a fuse on the batteries.

Not sure what you have / have not done on the DB side, but looking good so far yes.

@ greg_SA - Might go that route (money is tight like a nun :erm:) ... My usage during loadshedding shouldn't be more than 250W (TV, mediaplayer, router & couple 4W globes)

I have actually added a fuse the very next day after the initial install. Forgot to mention it. A fat 80A inline on the 25mm[SUP]2[/SUP] cable right by the battery +.

Don't want to get home to a nasty surprise. :wtf:

Is it kosher to have the batteries above a switch like that? (Just thinking of worst case scenario e.g. acid dripping out or something)

My issue normally with batteries packed onto shelving - especially high(ish) up...

You can't open the valves to check the water levels / top up (can't see clearly). Granted, it's not generally an issue for sealed batteries. Those with normal flooded batteries, keep it in mind. Due to our high rate of load shedding, you can easily get into the routine to check, and top up your batteries at least once every two or so weeks...

Hi - where did you buy the fuse?

Mine are 100% sealed - no openings. The idea of mounting them high up was to prevent anyone putting something on top of them (especially something metal).

I got the fuse holder and fuse from a friend. Afterwards, I saw the same thing at Midas and also something similar at Brights Hardware. It can also be found at RS Components online albeit expensive.

I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it.
