Axxess, at long last ....

Right and you did not benifit from any of these ISP's, trying to give you and me a worth whilst service? Come on man, do you really think that is the reason for the hardcap? You've gotto be kidding me. So you don't mind paying Telkom's rediculous prices for their products then. Shame on you!

No I didn't...
That was completely unethical.
They bought 3 Gig and sold 30 cos they though
Telkom would be to dumb to catch them.

Cmon thats pathetic, I don't want an ISP that
is so dodge it will steal from suppliers...

And I'm not gonna take a Saix acc either.

There are a few other ISP's out there with integrity

You guys are full... AXXESS was one of the first ISP's to offer the cheap higher-cap accounts and now you fling insults at them? Their hands are tied - it's TELKOM you should be pissed at not the guys at AXXESS - they've been trying to figure out WTF to do to keep you unloyal buggers happy!

You are being seriously unfair.
I also completly Agree MaD. Its not very hard to go back through these forums and see all the discussions that took place when this first started. When you see everyone that jumped up and moved ASAP and all the praise they gave access. When the loop holes where discovered and how these ISP's where doing what they where. Everyone again cheered and gave them the thumbs up loving how they where pulling one over telkom. There where 100's of comments about how everyone knew it would come to an end but would ride the train while they could. Now everyone is upset with these ISP's

I know I never moved over and while I wanted to kick myself month after month, But in the long run i've now got less problems than everyone else that now has to move over and find new ISP's, set up new bank orders, cancel old ones etc. On another note though all the ISP's have now released their new pricing... EXCEPT Telkom..... WHY???

Surely it is the reseller's (ISP) prerogative to cross-subsidize the accounts? If they buy 100 x 3gb accounts from Telkom, then they have 300gb to distribute between users as they please. This will be the way they continue to operate and given the prohibitively high wholesale price now, it's obviously not viable to provide 30gb anymore, but as penetration increases (of ADSL into the market, not Telkom into our...), maybe greater cross-subsidization will be possible, if it's really true that the vast majority of users do not exceed 3gb per month.

thats not what they were doing they found a cheat to get 30gig out of 3gig...so they bought three sold 30

WTF !!! As far as I know Axxess were one of those ISP's
that were stealing from Telkom. Causing this hard cap in
the first place. You can go thank your "buddies" at axxess
for that one.
So offering value for money is now stealing?

You sound very anti-progress to me. Even though the lower price higher cap accounts didn't last for as long as most would have liked it, it doesn't mean that it was wrong. Telkom didn't prevent them from offering them, did they? If they had such a huge problem with it then we woulda seen Telkom throwing lawyers at the ISP's.. for doing what though? They did nothing wrong, hence no lawyers.

No idea what your story is but maybe you

A) work for Telkom (most likely) so don't care
B) have a free connection at work so don't care
C) are under 13 and have a free connection at home so don't care

Well Axxess have unfortunately lost me as a customer. Not due to bad service, but due to unaffordable pricing forced by telkom.

Agreed with MaD. THANKS TELKOM!

no it didnt...long technical reason, but there was a work around...the hard cap sorted it out though...telkom have said there was never ment to be a 30gig account

and progress isnt progress if its going to get shut down...like i said...as bad as telkom are...pissing them off isn't they way forward...

What is the "cheat"? Surely Telkom's soft-cap would kick in?
The cheat was to not populate the SAIX RADIUS server with the real stats, so SAIX thought we we're only using n amount of data (less than 3GB) but meanwhile we we're using 30GB or more.

I stand to be corrected though.

use IS...like I have often asked...if eveyone is so pissed at SAIX why dont they use IS???It's simple...there IS a choice

Okay, thanks for the info. Nothing changes the fact that Telkom are the bad guys.

Nothing ever will unless we get affordable ADSL rates from them. And by affordable, I mean the english dictionary's meaning! Not telkom's dictionary.

Yes it was wrong of Telkom to condone the use of the loophole by a select number of ISPs on the quite, they should have rather set an official policy and applied it to all reseller ISPs.

In their defence they we coerced into it as they either condoned 30Gigs or the ISPs involved would have continued providing unlimited uncapped. It was just damage control on their part, they just should have been honest & open about it.

There are limits to this statement, at the extreme its the same as saying buying stolen goods offers value for money, and thats slippery slope to go down.

Think about this clearly, how can you claim that they where stealing anything. If for some reason Telkom failed to cap you would you not download anything? Until we actually do know what went on let's not start accusing people of anything. If they really had been stealing Telkom could have cut them off in roughly 30 seconds.

 Well took my own advice and did some searching, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=24117 A post from July where the pricing was discussed from the very beginning and how everyone agree/disagreed, etc. Worst is it was right there in front of everyone's nose all the time.

Darren M (CEO of Imaginet) said:
However, and this is important, SAIX’s pricing and policies regarding higher caps had not yet been addressed internally -- they are a massive, beauracratic organisation and they do nothing quickly -- and therefore, the increased caps came with a potentially dangerous side-effect regarding pricing.
You cant complain when it was told to you directly now can you

EDIT OH it also explains how it was not stealing btw..

Nope thats not correct, if you understand the architecture of how the self authenticating ISP work, you would know its the ISPs who were/are responsible for applying the cap, on a trust basis. Thats why Telkom couldnt technically stop them, so they came to the arrangement that it they wouldn't go past 30Gig per account per month, the lawyers wouldn't be called for.
