Axxess changing to IS

Does this mean that the bandwidth I purchased at PnP is now IS? Or was it always IS?

Can someone please tell me if prepaid can be reverted back to saix?

Thank you.

OK, to summarize for the lazy :D :

1. Log into your user account on the Axxess web site
2. Go to support and open a ticket
3. In the subject line put: CHANGE BACK TO SAIX
4. In the body tell them you want to be on the SAIX backbone and specify which accounts must be on SAIX should you have more than one
5. Send ticket

Or simply mail them. I did. 10 minutes - back on SAIX.:)

So when they claim that their DSL lines are on Telkom ADSL
See their green banner at
http://www.axxess.co.za/basic.php

Is that being economical with the truth?
Or does Telkom also run the IS?

Code:
Axxess DSL is a nationwide ISP. Our ADSL accounts work on all Telkom ADSL Lines.

I do not see anything wrong with that statement. Any axxess ADSL account work on any Telkom ADSL line. Who provides the bandwidth (IS/SAIX/etc) is another story and is not relevant to that statement at all.

Thank you Axxess

Well, after all the complaints, I'd just like to thank Axxess for switching the prepaid SAIX shaped accounts to IS semi-shaped.

I used to get 800 - 1000 ms latency while playing World of Warcraft. Since the change it's been 300 - 500ms. In fact I havn't seen it above 500ms once since the change. Hope it's not because everyone has moved to a different ISP :)

Also havn't noticed any difference while surfing on my 4Mb line.

So thank you Axxess!

Thats because Axxess semi(IS) is on Fibre not Satellite like everyone thinks:)

This is madness. You are thanking Axxess for putting you back on what you had before they changed you?

I don't think so. I was paying R69 per gig for SAIX shaped and getting 800 - 1000 ms ping now I'm paying the same R69 for IS semi-shaped and getting 300 - 500 ms ping. Seems like an upgrade to me. I havn't asked them to change me back to SAIX.

But it should have been your choice to change, not theirs. A blanket change like that has serious implications. Especially to business clients. IS Fibre is definitely slower the SAIX during the day.

At the very least they should have notified clients (with an opt in/out) before they put the change in.

Can someone please explain to me what semi-shaped is? Either it's shaped or it's not.

Well if all their shaped prepaid accounts are now IS semi shaped. It's really good news for gamers since you'll get 200-250 ping on international servers after 19:00.

...my Q is how is this now for IS semi and local gaming with saix's servers- i thought that IS had more latency on local gaming compared to saix ?

Axxess, without prior notification to their customers, changed to the IS backbone yesterday. My workshop connection was down for nearly an hour while I tried to sort out the problem.

Phoning their technicial support line (a premium call number charged at 99c/minute) resulted in being put on hold indefinitely. No recorded message was available to say what was happening. While I was on hold I was swamped with incoming calls from Axxess customers demanding to know why they were having connection issues.

I eventually redialed and chose a random option in the hopes of getting to actually talk to a person. I was told by Mark that the DNS server IPs had changed and he kindly give me the new ones. I didn't recognise them as being from the Telkom/SAIX groupings but was in too much of a hurry to ask questions. (Being in a hurry is going to cost me money today, believe me!)

After supper last night I discovered I could not send email. I had arrangements to go out and when I got home at about 22:30 I found I still could not send mail. I changed my SMTP sever to smtp.axxess.co.za from smtp.saix.net but was still unable to send. I phoned tech. support again, this time there is a message advising customers to change their DNS server settings but nothing is mentioned about mail servers. This is when I make the discovery that now I'm on the IS backbone! I duly change my mail server, and yes it works but man is it slow!!

This morning (07:00)I need to download software from AVG (there is a new version out for paid customers and I need to go and upgrade several installations). When we were on the SAIX backbone I averaged downloads of 40-50mbps. This morning I'm lucky to get 20mbps. Ok, I figured maybe it was just AVG, new version etc, server is busy. So I try some CNet downloads (CCleaner etc) again only 20mbps. I also need stuff from Malwarebytes.org - now I only get 15mbps. Each of these downloads was done individually and not concurrently and I know that I normally get approximately double that speed. As I sit here, I watch my download speeds get slower and slower with each download that I try.

I have several problems with what has happened at Axxess:

1. Axxess never bothered to inform customers that there was a change in infrastructure pending. No email, nothing!!

2. The change was done with maximum disruption to their customers

3. I am currently not impressed with the download speed which is significantly slower than when we were on SAIX. Surfing is pathetic - Genes Reunited page in the UK is taking nearly 10 minutes to load fully whereas before it only took 2 minutes max!

Come on Axxess, is this the way to treat loyal customers?

They don't care about you, it's about saving $

I always wonder when I see these sort of posts coming out of the blue and complimenting a company. In once case a poster has blindly punted a company and critisized other places for around 95% of their posts (which is well over 50).
