Axxess changing to IS

am i the only person who gets faster speeds on IS than SAIX?
IS rocks IMHO, maybe im just the lucky one lol

however I totally agree they should have warned people about the change over!

Indeed. Suddenly even Youtube downloads faster than I can watch :-)

its always been fast on my normal saix and is for that matter...but i guess 4 meg line comes into play.

They don't care about you, it's about saving $

I gathered as much actually. The problems in the Jeffreys Bay area are on-going with several of my customers really complaining about speed. People that I never thought would even register that something had changed.

This morning one guy complained about his AOL not opening...he's never had an issue until this week. At first he thought it was his computer but when I went to check it out I changed his router settings to use my log in (with the .s) and his AOL opened right up without problems. Changed his router back to his own settings (no .s) and AOL refused to open again.

I think that speaks for itself about the difference between SAIX and IS.

But it should have been your choice to change, not theirs. A blanket change like that has serious implications. Especially to business clients. IS Fibre is definitely slower the SAIX during the day.

At the very least they should have notified clients (with an opt in/out) before they put the change in.

Can someone please explain to me what semi-shaped is? Either it's shaped or it's not.

I agree, it should have been a choice. However if it were a choice I probably would have stuck with the SAIX option and never known about the lower ping in game.

I was just so happy when I logged in and my ping was suddenly half what it used to be :) It's amazing to be able to click on an object in WoW to pick it up and not have to stand around waiting for something to happen. Now it's just click, move on to the next one, repeat.

As to the semi-shaped thing, their website says this - "It's a fiber account that is a normal shaped bandwidth account on weekdays 7am to 5pm and an unshaped bandwidth account, ALL of the remaining time. "

ow hai ther axxess employee ;),
(/tinfoil hat on seems that 2 out of your 3 posts are only in this thread...)

...my Q is how is this now for IS semi and local gaming with saix's servers- i thought that IS had more latency on local gaming compared to saix ?

Lol, no, I do not work for Axxess. I do sometimes dream about working for an ISP, where I can have 24 hour fast internet access and sit and surf the net and download all day. But then I wake up and have to go to my real job where we have an uncapped IS account and the speeds suck :)

I don't know how it is for local gaming but I'm waiting for the Warcraft servers to come back up today so I can test it during business hours, seeing as I have the day off. Damn Wednesday morning maintenance.

If you think that's what they do all day then you seriously need to wake up :D

Agreed. I find Fibre-based ISDSL to be substantially quicker than SAIX
