Axxess - Need I say more...

The first few months I got my Axxess 384 account I was doing 600GB. All international torrents. The stuff had lots of seeds and so I was always running at night and over the weekends at 350 to 400 Kbytes. As my mission is to collect, my downloads now sit at 7.12 TB (though I already had 4TB when I started with Axxess). There is soooooooo much stuff out there, I really think for many, the reason they don't have anything to download often is they run out of space. They can't just click on a 100GB download, and say "what the hell, let's add this to my collection".

7.12TB  I did about 16GB of local downloads last night from 21:00 to 6:00 this morning on a DO3. Suck on that Winston. :D

That's 9 hours for 16Gb on a local connection...
You would only just make the 40Gb per day that the thread starter was getting... for 20 days solid... eish
And that's assuming he was d'lding 24/7 from a local connection on 4Mbps.

BUT he has a 384 uncapped account from Axxess... which says:
You will still have the FULL line speed after 8pm on weekdays and the weekend. This means that if you have a 4Mb/s line, you will get 4Mb/s speed, even if you only have a 384Kbps account!
This means that he is getting 4mbps for only 12 hours a day....
soooo... again.... HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?

He also has another 60 hours from 8pm Friday till 8pm Monday morning. Another 150/200GB's maybe? The speeds on 4mbs lines seems to jump up lately to 6-8mbs every now and then. I downloaded the new COD:WAW patch this weekend and for the first 15 seconds it was downloading at 1300KB/s and then it throttled itself down to 480KB/s. MMm, skip the 8mb.. Maybe the 4mb line users will be bumped up to 12mb lines. :D

Local servers then? Perhaps cached at Axxess? Or are we talking p2p here?

would have to be p2p imo. as you'd have to be uploading while you download to reach that 40 gig a day quota.
i dont see you doing that much everyday though

Have you EVER seen torrents reaching the 400 k per second mark? I haven't - not even close. Where in SA can you consistently get faster than 1Mbps on international? It has to be local news server.

+1000 to Axxess.

Best ISP IMO! Very easy to setup and maintain, very flexible (all functions and features can be done using the user control panel) and they have good support.

It starts predownloading, like when the dialog pops up to save the file. It averages out as it catches up.

So Penguin - is this Axxess product SAIX or IS? Are you accessing news servers?

By my calculations, on a 384kbps uncapped+ account it is not possible:

4096 (512KB) * 60seconds is roughly 15MB per minute
15MB * 60 minutes in an our is 900MB per hour
there are 120 hrs of 4Mbps speed per week
thats 120 * 900MB is 108000MB per week
4 weeks is about 421.875GB

now for the 384kbps time
384kbps * 60seconds 2.8MB
2.8MB * 60 minutes 168MB per hour
168 * 60 hours in a week is 9.8 GB
4 weeks is about 39.2 GB

So in total the download can reach 461GB in a 28day period

If we assume an upload sync speed of 640 kbps then:
640 * 60 seonds is 4.7 MB per minute
4.7MB * 60 minutes is 282 MB per hour
672 hours in a 28 day window
so 672 * 282MB is 185GB per month

so the total possible (no overheads) with the 384kbps uncapped + account is: 185+461 = 646GB per 28 days

Either the original poster was using an 8Mbps line and axxess is allowing it, or he is missreading his total usage or axxess is not dropping his speed during the day and he is getting full 4mbps all hours.

Is Axxess' bandwidth usage calculated correctly?

Or Axxess's usage totals are up the creek which could be bad news for people with regular (capped) accounts!
Axxess, let's hear it from the horse's mouth - how is it possible to get over 800Gb per month on a line that is throttled to 384 during the day!? Your stats on the site show all the top 10 users over 760Gb for the month!

1 384kbit/s 873 GB
2 512kbit/s 870 GB
3 384kbit/s 821 GB
4 384kbit/s 819 GB
5 384kbit/s 814 GB
6 384kbit/s 793 GB
7 384kbit/s 780 GB
8 384kbit/s 775 GB
9 384kbit/s 769 GB
10 384kbit/s 767 GB

And Rendier, are you dodging my questions about whether you are on news servers or torrents? If so, why is it top secret? Just curious.

The only way you can sustain full speed is by using news servers and not torrents.

Torrents cannot maintain full speed as far as i am concerned but nzb's will fly at full speed all the time.

Ja, I agree, but even on my telkom 4mbps line, speeds are between 100 and 400kbps, never higher... Perhaps I need to open a new thread with my questions - seems they aren't being answered here.

Sorry mate, I did not start this thread, I'm not using this product. I was just commenting on it. One of my earlier posts in this thread stated that I'm on Telkom's DO3. And yes, about the 20th of every month, after I depleted my 5gigs of international, I start reading 30gigs worth of news on local news servers;).
