Axxess Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

I am on a 384k line and downloading a game patch from a local site at 10kb/s :( Why would you want uncapped if you can only download at 10kb/s? It would probably take you a week to download 1 gb? Gonna take 1 hour to download 38meg.

Today's reason to drink axxess uncapped(shaped)....

So are you saying that on my 4meg line i should be happy with a buffering 720p youtube video because my uncapped service is shapped? Or that my nvidia driver updates only come in at 125kbs? I, as im sure many others do, understand what shaping means. Im not talking about news servers, rapidshare or torrents here, even the normal http stuff is slow. If they can only deliver upto a quater of the advertised speed, we should pay quater of the price...

On the Axxess account I can not browse the internet without it timing out. That is standard HTTP protocol that is not supposed to be shaped. However every other single ISP account I have on the same line, same router, same network works fine. Then who is to blame>?

For a shaped account thats pretty decent in the day and I can still browse and do emails. I'll judge tonights performance when I get to it but that is not bad and nowhere near what folks are making it out to be at the end of this thread

instead of calling the people here ridiculous why don't you post something useful like the speeds you're getting and when/how you're getting them. i've done my tests and posted the facts. maybe for you this account does the job but it definitely doesn't for me. I can accept shaping but not when my speeds are below 10KB/s (4% of normal speed!) on a 4MB line using an account that is being advertised as 4MB Uncapped Shaped (where they even list "No Rate Limiting" as one of the Pro's of the account). At the very least they should list all the constraints/speeds of this account and for which protocols, etc on their website so that people know what they're getting.

EDIT: I see they have now added to the list of con's "Not for heavy downloading". that still doesn't help and is way too subjective. they need to define what exactly constitutes "heavy downloading".

Well apparently even watching 480p youtube videos is regared as "heavy downloading" becasue i cant even watch that!

They can't. They are merely reselling the IS accounts and leveraging their group purchases to help with capacity. Mweb have provisioned their own upstream provider overseas. This nakes a huge differance. The only reason I have not left axxess is because of their service levels which I have really enjoyed but money talks as does performance. If the account is unacceptable will switch to Mweb and test. If that's bad I will go back to the old express + account.

Except I can only afford Express every 2nd or 3rd month.
 
in 10 hours I was able to download 255mb.... I guess that was too heavy for the axxess load?

lol...I get it...you work for axxess...nice one.......I am trying to copy off a local server and it maxes out at 130kbytes/s.....the only thing this account is good for is surfing the web, and even then its overpriced and if you are on a 4MB line a waste of money
 
Axxess it is an absolute disgrace to call the new 4096k service a 4096k service and charge what you are charging. Winston can fly from SA to USA and back with a 4 gig memory stick than the time it takes to download a 100 meg file, been trying to download a file from rapidshare for the last 3 hours, only have 25 meg so far, times out every 10 secs.

Kosmik if you can take your head out of the stars and tell us how you are achieving such remarkable speeds, when my browser times out trying to navigate to google will help us ridiculous folks get used to bending over like good boys and taking up the rear for country and ISP.

I never thought I would say this but "Axxess a big fail", you have lost another client this month.

All International is gone.
At about 9:40 my STEAM, MSN and Skype all got kicked out.
I got to rely on TELKOM for backup.
 
Today was the first day on the Axxess uncapped (shaped) 4M account and it's been the worst I've ever seen. The first day isn't over and already feeling ripped off.

Speedtests from the Axxess site are as follows
28k 8:30pm
16k 8:44pm
18k 8:45pm
19k 8:55pm
17k 9:00pm
37k 9:30pm

Here's a graph showing the bandwidth usage, trying as hard as possible to maximise the speed and I'm sure everyone would conssidder it a sad joke. (ed, using a number of protocols at once, of which torrents are less than 10k)

Nope I don't. As of now I've done 5Gigs today. Was playing eve fine until the international problems started and that is/was Seacom accross multiple ISP's. I'm just seeing a lot of people coming out of the woodwork, slamming an account not having the correct expectation of what it provides.

*Edit* Ah yes Speeds too. Europe latency was @ 250ms and New York @380ms. Work out 5 Gigs over 16.5 hours will give you avg speed but also I don't have downloads queued the whole day so have not been hammering the line.

Don't know how you got 5gb. Managed a whopping 500mb or so on my 4mb line today, mainly on software updates and a demo. Apple site @ 80kb and ableton demo crawling along at about 60kb.

I know I'm just repeating myself now but this service really sucks, I'm not even using p2p and it's slow as hell.
Tried to get a 1mb file from rapidshare, but that's been throttled so hard I was getting 60bytes a sec! Those speedtest results don't mean much in real terms, I get reasonable speeds on the test but the actual performance is a different story.

So we all going to flood them with refund requests? I belive we should, and are entitled to. if you cant even get your line/package once during the day, thats not accectable. (neither is my spelling ;))

I'm going to give them till nearly half-way through the month and judge performance as I go but I am leaning towards tryin out the mweb account. Recall also that IS are now suddenly swamped with a massive amount of unshaped accounts and Seacom probably wasn't fully tested to handle all those accounts. Speedtests are just showing what your line is capable of on the account. It is clearly the shaping that is effecting people and folks assume because they download a file from a website , that it won't be shaped. Any form of download is shaped.

I will judge on my total data movement and game performance with this account, I never expected it to run full dl speed at all but I expect it to make up the difference with better in the day browsing and higher dl and not neccesarily full at night.
