nope...prepared to pay R 100 extra for 64kb extra x 11 or 12 odd days (weekends dont count at full 4mbs neither does 8till8)...whatever that may bring in extra in bandwidth. Dont ask me to work it out though :)

is the 192 to 256 jump worth the extra seems to be the main question here? everything else is identical

The support is not identical. It really helps to have someone answer the phone after hours.

OtakuD clearly has no idea of what (s)he is talking about.

Anyways, what does Openweb throttle to that they are R100 more expensive?

Lol, probably since Ive been out of the ADSL game since 07, but back then IS was TERRIBLE and you could hardly get any p2ps going. Just wanted to know if this has changed and if those 800GB are realistic figures since Ive only heard of ppl getting a few hundred or so. Also I have an Is local only and it seems to be VERY unstable and from what Im reading on the forums, seems to be a recent and increasing problem... Anyways ill try it this month and as long as I get my moneys wroth Ill be a loyal client.! :)

Must say after hours speed has not been great on Axxess of late...think it's getting oversubscribed. In the week I am capped at 50KB/s and 100KB/s. Struggling to get to full speed. Weekends seems OK.

Openweb Issues

I'm new to the forum (well joined sometimes last year, but never contributed), so forgive me if I'm way off-line. Anyway, I lost my job 4yrs ago and started a small business since then. Business is struggling to get off the ground, hence my choice of affordability. I joined Telkom 384kb(1gig Int. and 10gig local sometimes last year based on affordabilty. I looked at Openwebs openbrowse 384kb account and asked them a series of 5 questions to make an informed choice. Among the questions asked was whether torrent and p2p downloads during the downloadable hours allowed (MrBeeP as he calls himself answered in the affirmative). Guess what, after the first weekend (being the downloadable period) torrents and p2p was barred by their proxy. I tolerated this for a few weekends. After being gatvol I tried in vain for 3 days to get hold of support on their 086number during support hours off-course. I finally sent a mail to support and was told 'sorry torrents and p2ps are not allowed - only direct browser downloads'. I questioned MrBeep by mail on their business practice and he responded that 'it was possibly a simple misunderstanding and if I feel that if its best to cancel the service then I must let him know and he would make the arrangements. I obviously don't have alternate options and decided to ignore the problem for now. Over the last 2 weekends downloads are performing at around 0.08kb/s through the proxy. I was better-off on a dial-up. I haven't as yet questioned them on this, as he may just terminate my account. I'm already capped for the month and at least I can still browse international. Thanks to this forum, I may alert any potential Openweb customer of what service to expect.

Get them out of your life. You wont look back.

the other great thing about these services is that you stop to scrutinise every last piece of bandwidth used. I download something and it turns out to be corrupt, I shrug my shoulders and look for another one. The only thing wasted is time.

I just wish the cost wasn't so high. Upgrading to 4meg is great but you're right about the bandwidth...I watch it like a hawk now. I guess I'd be happy with a 100GB cap at the current price I'm paying - and as unlikely as that is I probably also have the wrong attitude because we should be getting that at a lower price.

in the same boat now. looking at axxess express+ vs OW Func384k.

2 things to consider is the 192k vs 256k throttle &, the fact OW says that they are semi-shaped (unshaped after hours). don't know how axxess is shaped. anyone else have any input on this?

btw, what does OW's 15GB "monthly threshold" mean?
