B618 routers

Finally a B 618 through mweb with BF.
Installation was easy Peasy.
The speed is busy driving me batty!
Did test it beforehand and was fine. At times I get 2mbps up to 30 odd Mbps . Patience is a virtue....

Make sure to test out both LTE bands :) Also got my Mweb B618 router today.

5GHZ: ~5Mbps during the day, ~25Mbps when everyone else is asleep.
2GHz: 2Mpbs or slower.

Sadly my phones (Huawei Y6 and GR5) don't seem to be able to connect on the 5GHz frequency :(

When I was talking about frequency I was actually referring to the actual LTE frequency. With Rain LTE you get option of 2. Band 3 (1800MHz) and Band 38 (2600MHz).

Have a look here. There is a link in my post with the tool. You can easily change LTE bands with that tool.

Also yes on 2.4GHz wifi coverage is better but a lot of wirless noise for other wifi devices makes it slow. 5GHz is faster but less coverage range but is usually not that noisy and will give you beter speeds. Not all devices support 5GHz.

Ok so I'm using one of these, specifically the 22d model. I've just set it up. Previously I had a b315 for a couple of weeks. I did the forum's speed test, and got 0.90mbps down and 4.90mbps up with 55ms ping.
I'm puzzled as the 315 was in exactly the same spot and always picked up lte. The 618 fluctuates between 2/3 and 3/3 bars reception. There's no lte-a in this area. My best DL with the 315 was 36.8 mbps.
PS I'm using a Telkom lte sim on the 20+20 prepaid bundle.

Anyone else have this problem: you can only set the B618's IP address in the 192.168.x.x range. You can't for example use 10.10.13.x or any of the other private (or public) address spaces. There are only 2 text boxes in the web interface for setting the IP address, relating to the last 2 numbers of an IP address. The first 2 numbers are hard-coded to 192 and 168 and cannot be changed.

This a PITA, as I need to configure this router on a specific IP address to cater a specific network need. This is going to complicate things unnecessarily.

I have the B618-22d from Afrihost on a RAIN package.
